The architecture firm “TWS & Partners” was commissioned to build a villa on the mountain in Bandung, West-Java, Indonesia. The project was called “Hanging Villa” and scores with a modular, modern architecture that perfectly adapts to the hilly landscape with its geometric form. The building is far away from the city's heavy traffic and offers a comfortable retreat with a feel -good atmosphere. The modern villa should bring the big family together and give every family member their personal space. The focus of the project is the multifunctional outdoor area where different events can be held.
The architecture offers magnificent views
The location benefits from the beautiful surroundings, with a view to the deep valley, and from the proximity to the forest, theThe feeling of calm and securityconveyed. The architecture was originally designed as stacked boxes that were rotated around their corner axis. The walking experience is thus shaped from different perspectives. This strategy enables a multi-page orientation of the rooms and an almost 270-degree view of the surrounding valleys. This aspect was of central importance for the architect in the design process.
The building has a tower that begins from the street/garage level and leads to the second floor. There you reach a wooden bridge that runs over a water element. As soon as you walk through the wooden path, you can enter the living room, the kitchen and the dining room. The indoor and outdoor area is mainly kept in earthy colors. The warm color palette allows the villa to integrate into the landscape naturally. The interior offers a calm and relaxed atmosphere.
The main sleeping room and the service area are on the first floor and are separated from each other by the slope. The intention is that the residents have more private space, while the service area is only used for the housemaid and the security service. Each area can be reached via two different stairs from the second floor.
The entire landscape can be seen from the large viewing platform at the top. It offers shadows on the open wooden terrace underneath. There are comfortable garden furniture on one side of the open roof terrace. Here the residents can spend an evening with friends/family or enjoy the sun during the day. On the other hand, you have direct access to the private garden and the pool.
The villa is aligned so that it takes full advantage of the sun position and the wind direction. A noticeably fresh wind comes into the house, while the extensive glass openings offer a maximum of daylight. The building was planned weatherproof to ensure maximum protection against weather influences. For this purpose, suitable insulation materials and window glazing were used, which reduce heat loss without increasing the air humidity in the room.
