For many homeowners, the living room is not just a room where the whole family gathers in the evening to relax and talk together. This room is the heart of an apartment. Therefore, the living room interior should serve as a reflection of the residents and reflect their lifestyle, preferences and even character. That is why it is so important to design the room so that it provides maximum comfort for all family members. Does your 20 sqm living room seem too small to accommodate everything? However, with a well-thought-out furnishing concept, it is possible for the room to be both beautiful and functional!
Only at first glance it may seem that nothing would fit in such a living room except a large sofa, a pair of armchairs and a TV with a lowboard. Today we'll show you a few examplesoptimal furniture placementand also give smart living ideas on how you can make your room beautiful and functional. The floor plan drawings are very helpful because they allow you to quickly and easily see what you could place where in the room.
Spacious 20 sqm living room with reading corner
The first example shows how to equip a spacious living room of 20 square meters. The room is used purely as a living room, i.e. without a dining area or access to the dining kitchen. So the living room can become a place of peace and reflection for the mind and soul. The reading corner and the fireplace wall convey a feeling of well-being and appear like a welcome refuge.
The sofa group is to the left of the entrance. There is enough space for a multi-seater sofa and matching armchairs and stools. The television is hung above the electric fireplace insert. Together they create a focal point in the room and also serve as a decorative accent. A large bookcase is placed on the wall opposite the seating area.
Tipp:Regardless of the size of the room, it always makes sense to create clearly separated areas. If you have oneConsole table behind the sofaIf you set it up, the spacious living room will be visually more clearly divided into two zones.
First variant
If you need to set up a living-dining room of 20 square meters, the size is completely sufficient. Everything depends on the floor plan and the furniture. Here is an interesting variant of the layout for a living room-dining room combo that is well suited for a family of several people.
Square living roomwithDining area
The room is divided into three functional areas. There is a seating area (comprising a sofa group and a fireplace), a dining room (with a rectangular dining table, four chairs and bench) and two sideboards for storing dishes or displaying decorative items. With this furniture arrangement, the living room looks quite spacious. You can easily move from one zone to another. There is also enough space to open cupboards and drawers.
Second variant
Another variant for a long living room with a dining area for 6 people. Well thought out, the dining area is not far from the front door, while the seating area is at the back of the room. A shelving system extends along the front wall. The sofa faces the dining room group with its backrest, thus dividing the room into two.

It would be better if the dining area is near the door and not at the back of the living room. You have to carry dishes from the kitchen and back. The seating area, on the other hand, is perceived as a private zone.
In the next example, the dining area and seating area in the living room are separated from the kitchen by a partition. Different floor coverings (tiles in the kitchen, laminate in the living area) also contribute to the visual separation. However, a clever choice of colors creates a smooth transition between the functional zones.
Set up home office
A square living room represents a real challenge for many apartment owners. Especially if the dining room or a home office also has to be accommodated there. Below we will show you two examples of a successful living room design.
This living room is beautifully square with plenty of space for furniture. The main objects are evenly distributed throughout the room and the living room remains spacious.
The sofa is in front of the window, a matching armchair right next to it. A coffee table and a side table are also included. A TV and a wall unit are installed on the wall opposite the sofa.
There is enough in front of the wall unit and next to the sofaSpace for a desk. The decorative console table on the opposite wall rounds off the overall picture nicely.

The next example shows how you can set up a square living room with a dining area. Both areas are parallel to each other. In the hanging out area there is a corner sofa that is comfortable and space-saving at the same time. A small round table with four armchairs is set up in the dining area. If you need to seat 6 people there, you can use an extendable table, for example.
Next to the dining area there is a shelving system that serves as a desk and cupboard at the same time. The work utensils are neatly stored in the compartments, while home accessories are skilfully displayed on the shelves. The shelf becomes a real eye-catcher with built-in indirect lighting, which usually consists of LEDs.
Examples of designing an open living area with a single-line kitchen
Do you have a hose room and want to turn it into a kitchen-living room with a cozy dining area? Under no circumstances should you despair! With well thought out planning, anything is possible! We'll show you a few floor plans that you can use to furnish your narrow living room in a modern way.
The seat usually fits perfectly in front of a window front on one end, while the kitchen wall is installed at the other end of the hose. A stylish dining table can visually separate the living area from the open kitchen and become the focal point for family meals or social evenings with friends.
Place wide furniture such as sofas, shelves, etc. on the long side of the room. This way the aisle is left free and you can easily cross the room. Ensure there is sufficient lighting and plan a separate light source for each of the different zones. Choose light tones such as white, beige and gray to create a feeling of space in the narrow living room.
