Presented in a breathtaking setting on West Lake in Hangzhou, ChinaChanelon Tuesday evening theMétiers d'Art Collection 2024/25. The show location was not chosen by chance: Gabrielle Chanel once looked at an image of the legendary lake in her apartment on Rue Cambon.
The Métiers d'Art collections fromare always a presentation of the high craftsmanship, attention to detail and luxurious materials that come together in the Maison's designs. Once again, the designs, which ranged from iconic tweed costumes to elegant dresses, bustiers, T-shirts and wide-leg trousers and culottes, were adorned with the elaborate embroidery of the Parisian Maison Lesage, this time in the form of camellias and lotuses. The show looks were complemented by accessories such as scarves and beanies from Maison Michel. Dark shades of black, brown and burgundy are reminiscent of the ancient Chinese Coromandel pieces from the 17th to 19th centuries, which Gabrielle Chanel expanded over the years into a private collection of around 20 pieces. Colors such as jasmine green, pink and sky blue are reminiscent of the traditional crafts in the metropolis of Hangzhou, which is a melting pot of modernity and tradition. Overall, the collection, which is a tribute to travel and a place that Gabrielle Chanel herself could only visit in her dreams, provides plenty of inspiration for imaginary excursions. Or an idea for the next, real trip.
