Cool Airbnb: a night in the drug lord's private jet
A decommissioned 1968 Boeing 727 jet, now converted into a luxury private jet, is available for short stays. The special feature of this aircraft lies in its mysterious history. Originally in service with Japan Airlines, the aircraft passed into private hands in 1981. Since then, the aircraft, registered in the Cayman Islands, has been owned by various owners. Rumor has it that previous owners include both Middle Eastern royalty and members of the mafia - which only adds to the aura of mystery surrounding this extraordinary accommodation. One of the many owners is said to have been the Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. The aircraft is now available as a permanently based Airbnb in Bristol, England. The entrepreneur Johnny Palmer discovered the disused business aircraft in an aircraft graveyard and recognized its potential: it could serve as a themed hotel or provide an extraordinary backdrop for photo shoots. After it was decommissioned in 2012, Palmer purchased the jet without engines or wings and had it transported to his business park in Bristol. Johnny Palmer admits the Pablo Escobar connection may be nothing more than an urban legend - but who knows for sure?
