“Queer Eye” Season 9: The (alleged) drama behind the scenes – simply explained
We love, we love the inspiring () Stories, the heroes and the feel-good statements – but we also love one thing:Drama. And there seems to be a lot of that in the Fab 5 lately. The Fab 5, that was actuallyBobby Berk,Karamo Brown,Jonathan Van Ness,Tan FranceandAntoni Porowski.
However, fans who take a look insideSeason 9von“Queer Eye”on Netflix, which has been available since December 12, 2024, you will see that one face is missing: Bobby Berk. In the new season he was replaced by interior professional Jeremiah Brent.
What happened to Bobby Berk?
After Bobby announced that “Queer Eye” Season 8 would be his last, the rumor mill was churning (and honestly, even before that!). Because we don't know exactly whatreallyWhat's going on behind the scenes (unfortunately none of the Fab 5 are on our contact list), we'll simply summarize all the events, statements and anonymous sources to paint you as accurate a picture as possible. The wholeDramaaround“Queer Eye”, Bobby and Tan can be found here, simply explained.
The alleged drama of “Queer Eye” before season 8 – simply explained
Important disclaimer:Of course we don't know what exactly happened. The Fab 5 are only human – and theretake a look. You don't owe us an explanation just because we have onehave with them. Ultimately, the five of them are just colleagues – andmustnot be friends at all.
And now that we've taken a critical look at our parasocial relationship, let's get startedDrama.
Antoni didn't invite Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown and Jonathan Van Ness to his bachelor party
Antoni Porowski and his then fiancé Kevin Harrington celebrated their bachelor party in 2023. Among other things, they were there, Benji Pasek and “Queer Eye” colleague Tan France. Not therewere his other colleagues: Bobby, Karamo and Jonathan. While Bobby made it seem like he didn't have time, Karamo spoke plainly on Andy Cohen's radio show: "Bobby wasn't invited, I wasn't invited, and Jonathan wasn't invited," Karamo said. “Only Tan was invited.” With a laugh he added: “The Shade!”
However, Karamo assured that there is no bad blood between the co-stars - sometimes there just isn't enough space at such events. He probably wouldn't invite Antoni to his bachelor party either. The question of whether the Fab 5 would be invited to the wedding is now unnecessary: Antoni Porowski and Kevin Harrington separated amicably at the end of 2023 and called off their engagement. In some circlesIt's now rumored that Antoni and Hugh Jackman are getting to know each other - but that's a story for another day.
Bobby Berk is leaving “Queer Eye,” and the Instagram drama begins
On November 13, 2023, Bobby Berk announced on Instagram that he would be leaving the series “Queer Eye”. He wrote an emotional text under a carousel of pictures, which mainly show the heroes with Bobby. All of his colleagues wrote under the post and supported Bobby with their comments - except for Tan.
And not only that: Tan unfollowed Bobby on Instagram - and Bobby unfollowed Tan.
Why did Bobby really have to leave “Queer Eye”? Rumors arise
Bobby wrote thatisis leaving the show and that the decision was difficult for him. But the tabloidUs Weeklyreports that an anonymous source told them that Bobby had to go. Reasons for this included that he could no longer get along with the rest of the Fab 5, that his schedule could no longer be reconciled with the show and that Bobby no longer wanted to do “Queer Eye”. However, a second source tells the newspaper that the decision was made on a friendly level.
Will Bobby get his own show?
After exiting "Queer Eye," Bobby hinted on Instagram that he was starting his own show. “Bobby Berk needs his own show!!” it says on his Instagram post. And underneath Bobby writes: “I heard you, it’s going to happen!” There is no further information about this yet.
More Bobby and Tan drama on Instagram
On January 2nd, Bobby posted the poster for Season 8 of "Queer Eye" on Instagram and tagged all of his colleagues in the picture - except Tan. Bobby also liked a comment on the post: "If Bobby doesn't get along with Tan, then I don't get along with Tan either." Someone took a screenshot of the comment with Bobby's like and posted it on Reddit.
Afterwards, Bobby posted a video of himself with the caption: "Me when someone takes my phone to search something and the last search is 'Bobby Berk Reddit'." The comment that Bobby - or someone with Bobby's account - liked was quickly unliked.
Bobby then realized that this video was being used to fuel the behind-the-scenes drama, and he wrote in the comments: "By the way, this is just a joke because I search my name on the internet and read what people believe about me to know - nothing more!😘” Bobby responded to a comment in which someone wrote: “Now I need more info” with a, who half covers his eyes. You can choose for yourself what that means.
Bobby explains his exit from “Queer Eye” – and the “situation” with Tan
On January 25th, Bobby Berk spoke to our colleagues fromVanity Fairand spoke openly about the situation for the first time. Bobby explains that after filming the two seasons in New Orleans, the Fab Five thought the show was over. They hugged each other, tears were shed, and then everyone looked around for other projects. After the Hollywood strike, Netflix surprisingly offered the five of them another contract - and Bobby was sure that none of the others would return. But after a few conversations, the other four returned. At first the change of heart upset him: “There were definitely emotions. But each of us had our reasons why we did what we did,” says Berk. “I can’t be angry – but for a second I was.”
Then of course it was about his relationship with Tan – and their public Instagram dispute. “Tan and I had a moment,” Bobby Berk said. “There was a situation that only affected Tan and me and had nothing to do with the series. It was something personal that was brewing – nothing romantic, just to be clear.”
On Instagram, Bobby says: “Should I have unfollowed Tan? No. Maybe I should have just muted him. But that day I was angry and that was it. We’re like siblings – and siblings always fight.” At the Emmy Awards, the two hugged again and congratulated each other. Bobby also sees a reconciliation in the future - but that may take a few months.
