Attention: Spoiler for “The Recruit”, season 2
What is season 2 of the Netflix series about?
The mission of Owen in season 2 consists of saving life Nan Hees (Sanghee Lee). She is the wife of the Korean agent Jang Kyun (Teo Yoo), who was kidnapped by the Yakuza - and he will do everything he can to get his wife back. But that is easier said than done. New surprises, plotwists and intrigues await each corner that stand in their way.
At first it seems on the way to the final that there will be no hope for Nan Hee anymore. But in the last episode Owen forged a sophisticated plan. He is actually an agent of the CIA, but as always, this does not offer him any support, and he decides - should his plan go wrong - to become an renegade agent. It is important for him that he does not become dead as his colleague: inside, but that he continues to have a moral compass and is committed to “the good”.
But Owen learned a lot in season 1 and is ready for his big task. He only has to fight against Nichka (from the Russian mafia), the FSB, the Yakuza and a renegade CIA agent. What can go wrong? Answer: Much.
What do the titles of the episodes of “The Recruit” mean, season 2?
As in season 1, the titles are acronyms for sentences that are said in the respective consequences. In season 1, however, the meaning was directly behind it, in season 2 we have to see what the titles could mean. We went through all the episodes and are pretty sure that we have understood the abbreviations of the titles. Here you will find the original English title and the German title and its meaning.
Episode 1: “Y.N.A.H.Y.A.L.” bzw: “S.S.K.H.S.S.A.”
“You're not a hero, you're a Lawyer” or “You are not a hero, you are a lawyer,” says Owens Boss Nyland (von the Curtis-Hall) to him.
Episode 2: “Y.A.R.A.C.O.T.D.O.P.” bzw. “S.S.W.E.K.A.D.S.D.F.”
“You are real a condom on the Dick of Progress” or “They are like a condom on the tail of progress”. This iconic sentence comes from Janus (Kristian Bruun), a colleague of Owen, while you want to cover up the truth about the Graymail case.
Episode 3: “H.H.I.I.T.K.A.L.” bzw. “W.S.I.E.E.A.Z.T.”
"How hard is it to Kill a Lawyer?" or "How difficult is it to kill a lawyer?" Says Officer Dawn (Angel Parker) after her misstep.
Episode 4: “A.T.N.W.H.Y.P.A.B.H.” bzw. “U.D.W.D.N.S.D.K.A.”
“And then Nyland wants to have you pulled apart by Horses” or “And then Nyland will immediately tear your head off,” says Janus to Owen during a tension -charged car ride.
Episode 5: “W.S.T.W.T.P.” bzw. “W.T.N.A.D.P.”
“We're Still Tinkering with the programmatics” or “We are still working on the programs,” says Nyland, while he is still working on the programs.
Episode 6: “I.D.N.W.T.B.D.I.” bzw. “S.W.I.N.E.”
“I do not want to be dead inside” or “I don't want to end that,” explains Owen Dawn and Lester (Colton Dunn) on the phone.
Who dies in season 2 of “The Recruit”?
Season 2 of “The Recruit” is even more brutal than the first season - this becomes clear, especially in the last episode. The struggle between CIA agent Dawn and Nichka, part of the Russian mafia, completely escalates in the final. Both of them had different goals across the series. Dawn always changed sides, but wanted to kill Owen across the series because he knows about her secrets. Dawn then assumed the order of the CIA boss to kill Owen and his friend, Jang Kyun, to receive a promotion. Nichka on the other hand should catch the two alive to hand them over to the Russian secret organization.
Russian mafia then beats CIA agent, because in the last fight between the two Dawn is killed by a knife from Nichka.
The end explains by “The Recruit”, season 2
At the end of the last episode it seems hopeless. Owen has been left alone by everyone, the CIA betrayed and wrote it down, and he has to record it with the Russian mafia and the Yakuza. Contrary to all expectations and only because of his absolute stubbornness and fabricity to stay one of the good, he ultimately frees Nan Hee from prison.
Then the escape comes. You can find a boat through Yoo Jin - Owen's childhood friend and Crush, but how should you escape the Russians' patrol boats? The simple fishing boat is far too slow for escape. But then the apparently impossible happens. The US marine comes to the aid of a submarine and saves it. Did the CIA actually write off owen? All of the CIA? No: At the last moment Nyland seems to intervene and turns to the navy.
Is Owen still renegade now because he was not able to successfully complete the mission alone? Unclear. Nevertheless, he offers Jang Kyun and his wife a deal. He wants to recruit Jang Kyun as an American agent. And it seems to be an offer that it cannot refuse. Either he goes back to Korea and will spend a lifetime in prison, or he comes to America, starts a new life with his wife and joins the CIA. Jang shakes his hand, smiles, and it seems to confirm his decision to join Owen.
Owen smiles and looks hopefully at the horizon. But wait: something is wrong. His smile is slowly disappearing when they approach America. And rightly right: Owen wants to go back to an organization that has tried several times to kill him (without knowing that) and accepts it to lose him. Can he offer Jang Kyun the deal at all? Should he? What can he expect in America? Is he welcomed with open arms in the CIA? This can only answer season 3.
When does “The Recruit”, season 3 come?
Even if there are still many questions open, there is a third season of thenot yet confirmed. In some interviews, series creator Alexi Hawley already talks about his plans for the third season and told the industry magazineDeadlinethat he is very positive about the whole. Even with the character Jang Kyun, he is not yet finished and wants to incorporate even more action from him in the second season.
After the success of the first season, the second among the spectators also seems to be very well received. But of course you can never be sure whether your favorite series will continue. If a season 3 is to come, we assume that it will take at least another two years for it to appear on Netflix.
