“Virgin River”, Season 6: All cliffhangers and the ending explained – by the Brady actor himself

“Virgin River”, Season 6: Benjamin Hollingsworth in a GLAMOR interview about the most extreme twists and cliffhangers of the series continuation

Spoiler alert! If you haven't seen all the episodes of the sixth season of “Virgin River”, you unfortunately have to stop straight away. For everyone else who, like us, has already gotten back into the small town drama: welcome! And: We feel for you. Because the continuation of the-was perhaps more emotionally powerful than any season before - and also had more cliffhangers.

“Virgin River,” Season 6: This is all what happened

After the season finale of the sixth season, there's a lot to digest. Lark emptied Brady's bank account and vanished into thin air. But fans' hearts also had to process a lot earlier in the season: Brie had Brady, even though he was still in onewith Mike, recorded a drunken voicemail in which she revealed that she still had big feelings for him, and things got intensescene on the pool table in Jack's bar. And then there's the fact that Mike proposed to Brie in the final moments of episode 10. Instead of saying yes, she admitted that she had slept with Brady, but - shocker - Mike already knew and didn't care.

So will Brie accept the proposal? Or will she talk sense into Mike that this couldn't come at a worse time? Or maybe one of them is even pregnant, and we're headed for a classic "who's the father" story? Questions upon questions - some of which may be answered by Benjamin Hollingsworth - aka Dan Brady himself.

Hollingsworth not only reveals what he thinks could - hypothetically - happen in the next season, which begins filming in March in Vancouver, but also what almost didn't happen this season. Tense? And how!

GLAMOR: What revelation shocked you the most this season?

Benjamin Hollingsworth:That Brady and Brie had sex on a pool table. The original plan was for Brie to go to Brady's room above the bar and they have sex on a bed. But we've been building to this moment for a season and a half, so I thought, "I think it needs to be more raw and unplanned and somewhere unexpected. How about it’s the pool table at Jack’s Bar?” I suggested this to the producers as a spontaneous idea and they thought it was great.

I thought it was great because Jack's Bar remains the scene and the pool table keeps popping up. Brady goes through 18 different emotions at once. It was like acting gymnastics and a lot of fun. It was also very refreshing for Zibby and I to have a proper scene together again since it had been so long. We had these little scenes and little moments, but nothing that substantial. Did it work?

It's the most erotic scene of the whole season, but I always thought: This has to hurt.

I only have one word for you: abrasions.(laughs)

Did you end up regretting that? At what point did you think to yourself: WhyHell did I suggest the pool table?

No, I don't think I thought that. It's all about the art. I think it really feels organic and doesn't make you like Brady or Brie any less - even though they're essentially cheating on their partners.

Now of course – at least in my opinion – the seventh season has to be about the question: “Who is the father of Brie’s child?” Of course, Brie isn't pregnant - yet - but she did sleep with Mike and Brady, one after the other. At the end of the season, Bries points outthat they want to have grandchildren.

No comment.(laughs)But wouldn't that be great? I think if the baby is born with a leather jacket, we'll know it's Brady's, right?

Speaking of good drama, I was shocked in the finale when Mike proposed to Brie and not only did she admit that she slept with Brady, but he also said, "I know."

I was also shocked because it wasn't written that way.

How was it written?

It was written that she admitted that she slept with Brady, but that was about it. The “I know” wasn’t originally in the script. So when I saw an early preview of the episode and Mike said, “I know,” I thought, “What?! Did I miss a revision or something?” They shot it two different ways. Now that it's set up this way, it can play out in multiple ways. But holy crap, right?

Yes, indeed. Part of me was also amazed that Mike knew, but then again, they told practically everyone in town, so of course he knew too.

This is Virgin River. Internet slow, gossip fast.(laughs)

And why would Mike want to propose to Brie and marry her when he knows she slept with Brady?

Even. I think it seemed like desperation. It was Mike's last hope that she wouldn't drift away. I don't know if Brady would have reacted similarly if the roles were reversed. Had the tables been turned, Brady probably would have found Mike pretty quickly and talked to him about it.

What do you think Brie will say to Mike when season seven begins?

Hypothetically, I think it will be very difficult for these two to have a relationship that isn't extremely strained. It's not impossible, but I think it's very difficult for someone to get married after that. But anything can happen in Virgin River.

I don't necessarily know if this means Brie and Brady are suddenly a couple. I know fans are insisting that these two get back together, and I really enjoy working with Zibby, so I hope that no matter what happens, we get more scenes with Brie and Brady together. Zibby and I have so much fun playing together.

Let's talk about Lark. Were you surprised that Brady reconciled with her after he found out she was dating Jimmy, Hazel's father, and she tried to cheat on him? He got over it all pretty quickly.

I was shocked. When I read it, I didn't believe it. I thought, “Guys, this is ridiculous. He would never do that.” And then Sean talked to me about it and said, “I think we're going to start from the fact that Brady made mistakes. The whole idea of this season is that Brady is trying to be the man Brie wanted him to be, even if he's with another woman."

He must understand that if he wants forgiveness for his actions, he must also forgive others who have made similar mistakes. Brady and Lark are very similar in this respect. You find yourself in difficult situations and make some bad decisions. But overall, I think they have good hearts.

Lark appears to hear Brady professing his undying love for Brie, but later when Lark and Brady dance and she asks him what's wrong, he says nothing. She seems satisfied with his answer. I thought she knew, but now I'm not so sure?

Yes, I think this is another unfortunate moment for Brady as he finds himself faced with the question of not wanting to hurt someone's feelings or telling the truth. At the beginning of the season he said, "I want to tell the truth more often," and then when confronted by Lark he says he has nothing to worry about.

I don't know if it's a direct lie, but it's in the world of lies, and that always becomes his downfall. I think it's good that we're not suddenly acting as if Brady is the shining beacon of humanity and morality. He is still constructed in the same moral framework as before. However, he's trying to overcome some of those knee-jerk reactions he used to have to protect himself.

A big part of Brady's personality comes from always having to be a lone wolf. He wasn't part of a pack. When he joined the Marines, he suddenly found himself part of it. But when the Marines ended for him, that was all gone and he was left to fight for himself. He got on the wrong track. So all of that is part of him. I didn't want to just give it up. I'm glad the authors didn't do that either. As hard as it is to watch, I think the reason audiences support Brady is because he constantly tries.

Even in the scene with Lark, I wanted to make it seem like Brady wanted to tell her the truth, but he just couldn't find the right words. So he didn't.

You must have really had a lot of fun this season. Brady had the most OMG moments of anyone.

They managed to create so many different possibilities for season seven. We'll get back to work in March and figure out what happens next. I loved [season six]. We were able to explore the chaotic world ofexplore, because even for the happiest married couple, things are still chaotic. That is the reality of life.

So you were more shocked that Brady and Brie slept together or that Lark took all the money out of Brady's bank account and disappeared?

I think it's equivalent. How does he plan to lose this money this season? Because he is so incapable of finding something good and then keeping it.

How did she get his bank account? I know she saw his phone password when he entered it to play Candy Crush with Hazel, but the bank account requires more than just that.

I think Netflix took some artistic liberties with this because I don't know about you, but I have facial recognition and I get a code via text message when I want to access secured data. When you transfer hundreds of thousands of dollars, I imagine the bank will call and say, “Hello, was that you?”

Exactly. We know you start filming season seven in March. What's next for you?

I have one right nowcompleted with Arielle Kebbel, who appears on “Rescue: HI-Surf” on Fox. It's a really cute dog movie that we're doing together. This is the first film I've seen with onehave done. I have to say that dogs are very high maintenance. They always eat the whole thingin the craft business. They leave theirs behindeverywhere in the wardrobe. They never know their lines.(laughs)No, I had a great time. I love dogs, and this is all about (animal) rescue.

We don't know if it's on Netflix or another network or streamerwill, but it's a work in progress. And then I'm also writing a few other projects. This is really fun.
