Surprise hit “Squid Game”: Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed season 2
The news announcedHwang Dong-hyukin an interview with the Associated Press news agency: The demand was so great that he had “no choice”. “There will actually be a second season. [...] I'm currently in the planning process. But I think it's too early to say when and how everything will happen,” explained the "Squid Game" creator. But the 50-year-old couldn't resist a little spoiler and revealed: "Gi-hun will come back and he will do something for the world."

On February 1, 2024, the time had finally come and Netflix presented the first images and a short teaser video from the successful series.
Good news for all fans: Season 2 ofconnects seamlessly to the first. In the mini-teaser, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is seen with pink-dyed hair in an airport building. He takes a call and replies: “I will find you – no matter how difficult it gets.” Who is on the other side of the line from the obvious threatening phone call? No idea, but Seong Gi-hun will almost certainly have to fear and fight for his life again in the second season.

The final scene gave fans hope that the protagonist's storySeong Gi-hun(Lee Jung-jae) continues and he joins forces with others to end the deadly game once and for all. He could try to get the police on his side after they turned him away in episode 2. Or he can find other former onesParticipantsprevious games that want to take on the wealthy VIPs and game masters.
Showrunner Hwang Dong-hyuk also gives initial information about the content in his statement about the second season: “Seong Gi-hun, who swore revenge at the end of season 1, returns and takes part in the games again. Will he get his revenge? One thing is clear: the frontman is not an easy opponent this time either. The violent collision of their two worlds continues in Season 3 – the series finale, premiering next year.”

Three years after his triumph in the deadly “Squid Game,” player 456 is still determined to find those behind it and put an end to the evil game once and for all. Gi-hun uses the fortune he won in the “Squid Game” to finance his search and find the masterminds. He starts with the most obvious thing for “Squid Game” fans: he’s looking for the man who plays Ddakji in the subway. But the further he gets in his search, the more tragic Gi-hun's path to ending the game becomes: To end the “Squid Game,” he has to get back in and fight for his life once again.

When do the new episodes start?
Now it is known: The second season of “Squid Game” starts on December 26th, 2024! The news comes in a letter from director Hwang Dong-hyuk on August 1st. The start date is perfect for those days between years when some of us might have some time off and can also watch this season in one sitting!

In a letter to fans, showrunner Hwang Dong-hyuk not only confirms the start date for the second season, but also announces a blatant surprise: there will be a third and final season. The final episodes are scheduled to go live in 2025 - so this time we don't have to wait three years to find out what happens next!
“Squid Game”: first hints of a sequel from Netflix
At the beginning of October 2021, Netflix gave the first indication of new episodes. Shortly after Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp were down for a few hours, the streaming service's official Instagram account posted a picture of a sceneand explained: “IG is back just in time because we were close to …”
A note that contributes to the entireSeriefits: ambiguous, exciting and somehow mean. And that's exactly what fans of the series really liked. These were overwhelmed with comments like “Shortly before what???” to “Because you were just about to drop hints about Season 2?”. In December 2024 we will finally find out what that meant.
