Blow-drying your hair: We make these 7 mistakes all the time

Does your hair keep breaking off? Maybe it's the hairdryer routine. Bet you make at least one of these hair dryer mistakes...

The fact that we look so stunning after visiting the hairdresser is mainly due to the professional blow-drying technique used to get our hair in shape. They then have a silky shine, are wonderfully voluminous and the hairstyle lasts brilliantly.

But at home, after showering, the disillusionment comes: instead of blogger waves, only chive curls and the volume doesn't work anymore. The reason could be THESE hair dryer errors:

1. Too hot too fast

To save time, the hairdryer is set to full power and the still wet hair is blown through with full heat. Incorrect! Because this way you can permanently damage your hair. When wet, hair is particularly sensitive to heat.

Pro tip:First squeeze the hair in a towel (do not rub!) and then blow-dry it with cold air until it is almost dry. Only then turn the temperature up and finish blow-drying.

2. No heat protection when blow drying

“I only blow-dry my hair briefly, so I don’t need any heat protection spray” – that’s not true! Even when blow-drying, your hair is exposed to heat and stressed. Therefore, be sure to use a heat protection product for your hair every time you blow dry. This ensures shine and keeps the hair healthy.

3. Styling products applied incorrectly

Do you apply heat protection and volume spray before blow-drying and are you wondering why your hair quickly looks flat and weak again after blow-drying? This is often because the spray is applied incorrectly.

Pro tip:You should spray the heat protection evenly and from a sufficient distance (not too close!) onto the still damp hair and then distribute it well with a comb. Volume sprays, on the other hand, should always be sprayed onto the roots. To do this, separate individual sections of hair, hold them upwards and then spray onto the roots from a distance.

4. The hairdryer is lousy

Whether it's a travel hairdryer without temperature regulation, a cheap version or an ancient model - there is an acute hairdryer emergency in many bathrooms. In order for your hair to look like it came from a hairdresser after blow-drying, you need a high-quality hairdryer. New models are equipped with temperature and strength controls and various attachments so that the hair is not stressed as much.

Pro tip:Get a high-speed hair dryer with ionic technology. Your hair will dry in no time and will not become statically charged.

5. The wrong brush

Not every brush is suitable for blow-drying hair. To create volume in your hair, you should use a round brush and gradually blow-dry the sections of hair. Make sure the brush size matches your hair length. The shorter the hair, the smaller the brush.

Pro tip:Round brushes with boar bristles are ideal for blow-drying. But make sure that you blow-dry your hair with cool air before using the brush (see point 1).

6. The wrong direction

When blow-drying with round brushes, many of us don't pay attention to which direction we are holding the hairdryer. The result: The hair becomes rough, frizzy and, in the worst case, even gets tangled in the brush.

To prevent this from happening to you (anymore), always make sure to hold the hairdryer so that the air flow runs in the direction of the brush. This gives your hair a nice shine and makes it easier to style.

7. Hot air only

Most of us only use hot air when blow-drying. This mistake can not only damage the hair substance, but also causes the hair to look dull.

Pro tip:Follow the cold-warm-cold rule when blow-drying. First blow-dry your hair until it is almost dry with cold air, then blow-dry it with hot air using a round brush and then let it cool down with cold air. Only then pull out the brush. The cold air seals the hair and gives it a beautiful shine.

What mistakes do you regularly make when styling your hair? From now on, follow these tips and you will see that your hair will shine much more and break less in the future. However, if you suffer from persistent hair or scalp problems, it may be advisable to see a skin specialist.
