Mulled wine jelly: simple recipe

The basic ingredient for the jelly is a strong red wine. Of course, this recipe is not suitable for children. For the little ones, you should cook your own version with dark grape, currant or cherry juice. When your jelly is ready, you should boil your disposable jars properly before transferring the jelly. The sugar keeps the spread for a few weeks. After opening it should be stored in the refrigerator.

You need these ingredients for approx. 4 jam jars (200 ml):

  • 400 ml red wine, dry
  • 180 ml orange juice
  • 7 cloves
  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 allspice seeds
  • 3-4 star anise
  • 200 ml elderberry juice
  • 400 g preserving sugar (2:1)

And this is how easy it is to prepare:

1. Put the red wine, orange juice and all the spices together in a large pot and bring to the boil. Now remove the pot from the heat and let everything steep for at least two to three hours.

2. Add elderberry juice and preserving sugar to the mixture. Bring everything to the boil and let it simmer for about five minutes. Skim off the resulting foam.

3. Boil mason jars with screw caps well and place them upside down on a kitchen towel and allow to drain.

4. Now distribute the spices evenly among the glasses and pour in the finished liquid. Seal the jars and place them upside down (on the cap) on a kitchen towel for about 20 minutes.
