Most people don't seem to be particularly creative. At least there is one classic: one in three Germans who are in a relationship call their better half darling.
Here is the top 10 pet names:
1. Treasure (37 percent)
2. Schatzi (9.6 percent)
3. Hare (3.9 percent)
4. Favorite (3.5 percent)
5. Schnuckel / Schnucki (3.1 percent)
6. Mausi (2.8 percent)
7. Bear / Bärchen / Bärli (2.2 percent)
8. Dad / Papi / Papilein (2.0 percent)
9. Abbreviation / trivialization of the first name (1.5 percent)
10. Smaller/Small/Small (1.7 percent)
And these nicknames really do serve you well, if you look at what strange nicknames for men there are in this country. Certainly meant kindly - but still slightly wrong...
