New year, new resolutions: Many of us are in decluttering mode. Clearing out the closet is often at the top of the list. But this sometimes turns out to be more difficult than expected. With the 3-second rule, however, the whole thing is quick and easy.
Our wardrobe is a storage place, a gathering place and an organizational aid. Whether on hangers, in drawers or shelves - this is where we not only store our clothes, but often also our shoes, bags and other accessories. Sometimes a lot of things can come together. So much so that it makes sense to tidy up, rearrange and of course clear out your wardrobe every now and then.
A good time for this, for example, is always a change of season. So when you switch from winter to summer wardrobe - or vice versa.
That sounds easy. But often it isn't at all. At least not for everyone. Because while some people can sort out one thing or another emotionlessly without batting an eyelid, others find it very difficult to part with something. Of course that's completely fine. But also useful? Because when a piece of clothing is no longer worn, it actually just sits around in the closet without any function and takes up valuable space...
If you are one of those people who are hesitant or unable to part with certain items of clothing or accessories, then there is now some brilliant help. Have you ever heard of the 3-second rule? We'll explain what's behind this method and how it can help you quickly and easily create space in your closet.
This is what lies behind the 3-second rule
Whether it's make-up tutorials, dance videos, hauls, challenges or pranks - there's nothing that doesn't exist on TikTok. Again and again, trends emerge on the social media platform that are hyped, go viral and (should) encourage us to imitate or repurchase.
One page that has already received a lot of clicks and likes on TikTok is Kayleen Kelly's profile. The organization expert gives lots of tips and tricks on her account about tidying up and creating order.
The community particularly liked one video. One post is about the so-called 3-second rule, which should make it possible to clear out your closet quickly and easily.

This is how Kayleen Kelly's method works
First, put all the clothes, accessories or other things in a pile that you want to tidy up or sort out. You can think about whether they still fit you or whether you still like them. Then you can get started. Take each piece into your hands and make a decision.
- Yes = you keep it.
- No = It goes away.
- You hesitate to make a decision for more than three seconds = you keep it.
Make a pile for the things you want to keep and a pile for the things you want to sell, donate, or throw away. If you feel like you haven't cleared out enough, just start another round and go through stack by stack again.
According to Kelly, anyone who cleans out diligently will of course be rewarded. Not only with a neat and tidy wardrobe, but also with a great feeling of happiness.
