We don't want to miss the dishwasher. Unfortunately, not everything is allowed in the machine. We tell you what things don't belong there.

Table of contents

Fortunately, what used to be part of the agenda is much easier today: there is talk of washing. If you don't have a dishwasher or do not yet have it, you have to or have to wash the dirty dishes and cutlery by hand every day.

A dishwasher that does all the dishes without our help comes to us. Simply put the whole dirty dishes and the dirty kitchen utensils in the machine, cleaner in and you can start. But unfortunately it's not that simple. Because not everything we use in the kitchen should put you in the dishwasher.

Unfortunately, the following still applies today: Washing by hand is the better choice for some things. But what must not be cleaned in the dishwasher and should be cleaned in the sink? We clarify.

1. Wooden boards

Holding kitchen utensils such as cutting boards, but also knives with wooden handle should not be placed in the dishwasher. The hot water can penetrate the wood and deform it, in the worst case, such a board can also break through. In addition, the wood glue can come loose so that the utensils can no longer be used after the wash cycle in the dishwasher.

This also applies to materials such as cork or bamboo. That also doesn't belong in the dishwasher.

2. Pan

Even if it is difficult for us, pans do not belong in the dishwasher and should be washed off by hand. This applies above all to coated pans from Teflon, cast aluminum or cast iron. Due to the hot water and the cleaning agents, the non -stick coating can be attacked in the long run. The unsightly episode: meat burns much faster in the pan.

So better clean in the sink and clean thoroughly.

3. sharp knife

While you can easily put normal knives into the dishwasher to eat, you should better leave sharp cutting knives outside. Here there is a risk that they will become dull. This is among others due to the cleaning agents that we use in the dishwasher. In addition to aggressive acids, these often contain salts and lye, which react with the metal and make the blade blunt.

4. Decorated porcelain

Most of the time it is heirs from the parents or grandparents: filigree decorated porcelain with gold decor or other decorations should be washed off by hand. The fine decors could otherwise be damaged in the dishwasher.

5. Metal dishes

Metal dishes are also often heirs. So you may also know the grand -made silver cutlery of the grandma, which of course is only served on special holidays. Such kitchen utensils do not belong in the dishwasher. The sensitive metal, whether aluminum, copper, bronze or brass, can easily turn in the dishwasher. This is not only a shame, it doesn't look nice either. Therefore, wash the metal dishes like silver cutlery by hand.

6. Kitchen utensils with frosted glass

Milk glass looks pretty, but has no place in the dishwasher. In the worst case, the glass can turn yellow in the dishwasher.

7. Isolated container

You shouldn't put containers warm or cold in the dishwasher. Travel mugs or coffee-to-go cups belong by hand. The reason for this is obvious: the seal could be damaged by the flushing cycle in the dishwasher. The consequence: Due to the missing vacuum, the liquid can no longer be kept warm or cold.

8. High quality glasses

High quality glasses such as crystal glasses or filigree sectlets do not belong in the dishwasher and you should wash off by hand. Models with filigree stem are particularly sensitive. This can easily break in the dishwasher. The phenomenon is also known that glasses corrode over time, i.e. become cloudy. This is not that bad for “everyday glasses”, but with high -quality, expensive glasses.
