Rhododendron is considered easy to care for and real beginner shrub. But it can happen that the popular plant shows fewer flowers than one would like. The reason can be a lack of nutrient supply. Fertilizer helps so that the green rhododendron turns into a true sea of flowers.
But you don't have to buy expensive products to give your plants flowering power. It also works for free. Because the perfect rhododendron fertilizer can be made from two kitchen waste.
Rhododendron fertilizer from coffee grounds and egg shells
So far, coffee grounds and egg shells have ended up in the bin on the direct path? This should change this garden season if you want magnificent flowers. The two waste products are true nutrient boosters and offer your plants everything they need.
In addition, a fertilizer can be made from it at lightning speed. You don't have to wait long or take complicated steps. Read here how to do it.
Ingredients for the fertilizer:
- 1 cup of coffee grounds
- 4-5 eggshells
- 5 liters of water
- An old bucket
This is how it works:
1.Collect coffee grounds: Collect the coffee grounds from your filter or the coffee machine. You can use or dry it directly or store it until you have collected enough.
2.Prepare egg shells: Rinse the eggshells thoroughly and let them dry. Then break them into small pieces or mash them to a fine powder. For example, you can use a mortar. Egg shells are an excellent source of calcium that is good for the rhododendron.
3.Mix: Mix the coffee grounds and the crushed egg shells in a ratio of 1: 1. Spread the whole thing in the bucket with water and stir everything well.
4.Fertilize: You can now simply pour your plants with the self -made fertilizer.
It is enough if you use the fertilizer twice a year. In spring, at the beginning of the growth period, when the first new shoots appear and in autumn after flowering. This is how you strengthen the plant for the next flower season.
