Setting up a small children's room

Decorating a room can be difficult, but a small child's room presents an even greater challenge. With a few clever visual tricks and multi-purpose furniture, you can double the functional living space.

One of the golden rules for decorating a room is the light color of the walls. This doesn't mean that all walls should be painted white. Bright colors create a happy atmosphere and add beautiful color accents. Opt for a color scheme with similar shades such as sunny yellow and orange, baby blue and lavender blue, or pink and purple. To create the illusion of space and height, you can choose a wall design with thin, vertical stripes.

Theavailable storage spacecan be a problem because children's rooms are usually smaller than a bedroom, but have to fulfill several functions at the same time and serve as a playroom, sleeping place and work area at the same time. Use clever space solutions such as bed with storage box and loft bed with wardrobe to organize your child's room.

You can choose from single beds with bed boxes or drawers, wall beds and sofa beds. If the ceiling is high enough and your child is not afraid of heights, a loft bed would also be perfect if space is limited. There is also space underneath for a desk, bookshelves and even a wardrobe. Heavy, dark furniture makes any room feel crowded, so the combination of white and light wood is perfect.

The wall above the bed is usually decorated with a mural, many picture frames or a wall tattoo. However, when it comes to small living spaces, you should make optimal use of every centimeter. This way you can equip this space with shelves. When assembling the shelves, however, you should pay attention to the height and distance from the bed so that you don't hit your head on them when you wake up.

If you buy a loft bed for your child, you can use the space underneath in a variety of ways. Either you create storage space or an additional space for reading, studying or cuddling. Some furniture manufacturers offer ready-made solutions that integrate a wardrobe or a desk under the loft bed. However, it should be noted that these loft beds can only be used from a certain age.

There is space for all toys, books and clothing in the practical built-in cupboard. The compartments are partly open and painted green, partly with cupboard doors. The white high-gloss surface not only sets successful accents, but also makes the built-in wardrobe particularly easy to clean.

Wall shelves not only offer practical space for books, decorations, etc., but can also be very decorative. Here, for example, the shelves provide color variation and bring dynamism to the room. Yellow comes into its own particularly well in combination with beige.

White furniture makes every room appear bright and large. They look even more radiant, especially with a dark wooden floor. In combination with a creative wall design with eye-catching patterns, the furnishings look harmonious.

Cappuccino as a wall color appears very calm and unobtrusive. The color is between white and brown and can be combined with almost all other colors. It forms the perfect base for colorful wall decorations and underlines the warm appearance of the wood. With yellow you can create effective contrasts and create a cheerful atmosphere in the room.

In small rooms you should make sure that it is not too colorful and of course not too dark. Experts recommend a maximum of two to three colors when it comes to color design. This example shows how well gray, white and light wood get along. The desk chair, a stool and a storage box add colorful accents.

Did you ever think that the colors black and white could look so beautiful. The many toys automatically make the room colorful anyway. So the basic colors can be a little more neutral. There are also many interesting ways to use black, for example with chalkboard or magnetic paint. A black and white wallpaper with beautiful motifs would also be a cool idea.

You can create a dreamlike atmosphere with a photo wallpaper. With little effort you can give a bare wall a completely new look. The selection of motifs is huge. Forest and floral motifs are particularly beautiful, bringing the harmony of nature and a touch of freshness into the room.

When setting up, you can also stick to a specific theme and match the decoration to it. A wall sticker with a sports or football theme is always well received by boys.

The lighting should optimally cover every area. Led ceiling spotlights, for example, take up little space but can illuminate the entire room. A desk lamp and a bedside lamp are also part of the basic equipment.
