Make a Santa hat out of paper and popsicle sticks

We'll start with a really simple idea that you can use for a Christmas craft afternoon with the kids. These are small hats that, among other thingsmade out of paperbecome. For this DIY project you will need:

  • red craft paper
  • ice styles
  • cotton balls
  • red acrylic paint
  • Hot glue

Place three of thewooden popsicle sticksForm a triangle on a red sheet and trace the inside with a pencil. This way you get the size you need, which depends on the length of the stems. Don't cut the triangle directly on this line, but make it a few millimeters larger. If you would like to make more than one Santa hat, it is worth cutting out the first triangle from normal white paper and then using it as a template for all the red triangles.

Paint the popsicle sticks red and let them dry. Then glue them to the edges of the triangles. Then decorate one of the three sides with cotton balls and finally add a ball to the opposite tip. Your first hat is now ready.

Instructions without sewing

You can also make a Santa hat like this and use it to decorate and package a wine bottle that you want to give as a gift. The project is similar to alittle Santa bagquick and easy because there is no need to sew, just glue.

  • red and/or white felt
  • white faux fur
  • big pompoms
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors
  • optional: colored hot glue for labeling

Measure the circumference of the wine bottle and then draw a rectangle of any length on the red or white felt whose width corresponds to this circumference. Cut out the rectangle and shape it into a cone using the hot glue. Simply cut off the excess, protruding corners at the bottom of the cone.

If necessary, cut the faux fur and then glue it to the edge of the felt cone. Add the pompom to the corner. If you want, you can now label the hat with colored hot glue. Isn't that a magical one?Wine bottle gift packaging?

Wrapped with yarn

This project, with which you can make a Santa hat, is a little more time-consuming. The cap is the bottle itself. To make it, the bottle is wrapped with red yarn. It's best to start on the lid so that you can then hide the beginning of the yarn with the pompom. Glue the beginning of the wool thread in place and then slowly work your way in a spiral to the bottom of the bottle.

You should fix the thread with glue at regular intervals so that nothing can slip. Finally, glue the faux fur above the base and the pom-pom (or a cotton ball) onto the lid. Unfortunately, the thread has to be cut at some point if you want to open the bottle. Therefore it is less suitable for a full bottle of wine. Instead, you can use an empty bottle and make the Santa hat to serve as a Christmas decoration.

Sew Santa hat to wear

Of course, it's not just wine bottles that can wear Santa hats at Christmas time. You can also make one for yourself. If you also want to use felt for this purpose, you can simply glue them together. However, if you use a different fabric, it is recommended to sew them. You can get the right size by simply measuring your head circumference.

And when you choose the fabric, you don't have to choose the classic red and white. The disco version from the picture above is also very original and even has a disco ball instead of a pompom. Be creative and make Santa hats for the whole family!

Made of felt for the chairs

How about using it to decorate a chair? Of course, the whole thing looks even nicer if you make several hats for all the dining chairs to make the perfect oneChristmas decorations for the kitchento put together. This makes every pre-Christmas breakfast even more beautiful!

  • red felt
  • white felt
  • Tape measure
  • sewing machine
  • white paper
  • Needle and thread or hot glue

Instructions

First, you need to measure the back of the chair so you know how much fabric you need to cut. Make sure that you also measure the widest part of the chair for the width (this does not necessarily have to be the top edge. If your chairs have an unusual shape, the backrest can also be widest in another area.). Then measure the length of the backrest. Also allow 0.5 to 1 cm more for the seam (except at the bottom). Basically, the hat should be a little looser rather than too tight.

Now draw this rectangle on the white paper. You will also need a tip for the tip. You decide for yourself how long you would like it to be (the dimensions of the Santa hats in the example are 48 x 45 cm and 25 cm for the tip). Cut out the pattern from the paper and use this template for all pointed hats. You need two pieces per chair.

Place the two pieces of fabric together (right sides together if patterned fabric) and sew all sides (except the bottom edge) together. Then cut the corners before the seam, turn the hat inside out and iron the fabric on low heat. Then add a seam where the rectangle and triangle meet. This will prevent the hat from slipping too far down the backrest later.

In addition to the red elements, the white elements should not be missing for this decoration idea. So next, take the white felt and cut out a strip that is as long as the bottom circumference of the hat, plus 1cm for each end for the seam (in the example it is 5cm wide). Take the two ends of the strip together to make a ring. Place the hat inside and sew the strip onto the hat (one seam at the top and one at the bottom).

Now all you have to do is add the pom poms. You can use a ready-made pompom for this or from white feltMake your own pompoms.First cut out thin, long strips from the felt and then shorten them (in the example they are 0.8 cm wide and 10 cm long, but perfect dimensions are not necessary). You will need 45 to 50 such strips per pompom. Put them together and tie them firmly in the middle. You can sew the finished pompom onto the hat by hand or glue it in place with hot glue.

Little Santa hat

If you make a little Santa hat, you can use it for a variety of things. We'll show you quick instructions and then give you a few ideas about what you can do with the hats.

  • red felt
  • white felt
  • Needle and red thread
  • Hot glue
  • white pompoms
  • Scissors

Cut out a triangle from red felt, with the corners rounded and the bottom side not straight, but slightly curved. Now make a cone from this shape by sewing the two sides together with a needle and thread or gluing them together with hot glue. Then you'll need a thin strip of white felt long enough to fit around the hat. Glue it and a white pompom to the designated places.
