ManyDIY costumesare only complete with the right accessories. It's the same with the butterfly. Without matching wings, the butterfly costume is missing the most important thing. That's why today we'll show you how you can make different types of wings yourself. Whether made of cardboard, fabric or parchment paper with flowers, with our instructions you can make great butterfly wings that your daughter will fall in love with!
Make butterfly wings out of cardboard
No matter whether you are making the butterfly wingsChildren's birthday party with a theme, carnival, Halloween or just for dressing up in your free time, with cardboard models you get sufficiently stable versions that are quick to make and can be remade at any time if the old ones give up.
- large piece of cardboard
- Pencil
- Carpet knife
- Color
- Paint brush
- Band
Take the cardboard and draw both butterfly wings. For this purpose you can also take a template of a wing, transfer it first, place the paper in a mirror image on the first wing and mark another wing. Then use the knife to cut out the outlines. Your child can then paint the wings themselves and help you make the butterfly wings.
Finally you need the straps to put the wings on. Cut the wings once in the middle at the top and bottom. Then insert the cut ribbons through these holes. They can be a little longer and hang down in the back. This gives the wings a special charm. Knots aren't really necessary as long as you don't make the slits too big, because then you can easily tighten the wings.
Tipp:You are also welcome to make this paper butterfly wing idea. Then you can also use simple scissors to cut it out. However, keep in mind that the wings will then not be as stable and could quickly tear, especially at a children's party.
Make your own butterfly wings with real flowers
Of course you canButterfly makeup, but real wings are much better, aren't they? These unique butterfly wings are particularly romantic and require, among other things, chlorobromium silver paper and dried flowers.
- real flowers or leaves
- microwave
- kitchen paper
- Glass or ceramic casserole dish (approx. 22 x 22 cm or small enough to fit in the microwave)
- Chlorbromsilberpaper (2 Stk. at 60 cm)
- Pergamentpapier (ca. 60 cm)
- Edding
- a thick piece of wood, preferably with a flat side
- Hot glue
- tape
- Rubber band
The flowers dry
Before you make the butterfly wings, you first have toDry flowers. You can do this the classic way by pressing them in books or the quicker way in the microwave, like this:
Spread the flowers on kitchen paper and then place another piece of paper on top of each one so that you get a kind of sandwich. If the flowers contain a lot of moisture, you can also spread the paper out in two layers. Place the first batch of flowers directly into the microwave and the baking dish on top to press them. All flowers should be covered. If not, change the shape after each interval.
Danger! The mold gets hot!
Turn on the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds, if necessary, move the pan to another location and turn it on for another 15 to 30 seconds. Now replace the paper with dry paper and continue to heat the flowers as described at intervals until they are completely dry. One and a half to three minutes total should be enough. The last time, remove the top layer of paper and heat the flowers uncovered.
Make the butterfly wings
Take the parchment paper and fold it in half. The fold is the area where the wings touch and is the body of the butterfly. Draw a wing with a sharpie, turn the paper as it is (notunfold) and trace the outline of the first wing again on the back of the paper. This will give you two identical butterfly wings when you unfold the paper again.
Tape the four corners to the table so that nothing can slip. Glue a piece of chlorobromsilver paper over the top in the same way, with the sticky side facing up. Now you can decorate the sticky side with the flowers as you like. Leave a sufficient distance from the edge.
Once you're done, you can seal the work by gluing another piece of chlorobromium silver paper to the wings, but this time with the adhesive side down. To do this, gradually work from one side to the other to avoid air bubbles. Then cut out the wings.
Make butterfly wings for kids – butterfly bodies and rubber bands
Finally, glue a piece of wood in the middle of the two wings to create the butterfly body.Light driftwoodis ideally suited. Then glue the rubber band to the two ends of the body, the size of which you have previously measured for your child. Now the wings can be tightened.
Make your own black and yellow butterfly wings out of felt
If children are to wear the wings, it is better if you use light materials. Felt is not only great, but also perfect for beginner crafters. With its help you can make attractive and colorful butterfly wings. They can also be done in small formatfor decorating in springbe used.
- black felt
- yellow felt
- Fabric or hot glue
- chalk
- Scissors
- tape
- wire
- Rubber band
Use any stencil to transfer the butterfly wings and patterns onto the felt. You can find a suitable one below. You need two of the black wings. To transfer, use chalk for the black felt and a simple pencil for the yellow. Cut out all the elements, arrange the yellow ones on one of the black felt wing elements and glue them in place.
You now have a piece of black felt left that has not been decorated with yellow. Now place the wire about two centimeters from its edge and secure it with adhesive tape. Now glue the felt wings with the yellow pattern onto it. Now you can cut the wings in the middle as in the first instructions and attach elastic bands or ribbons to tighten them.
