Making snowdrops in spring – craft ideas for young and old

The early bloomers are considered harbingers of spring and promise warmer, sunny days again after the long winter. That's why these graceful flowers should not be missing in the garden as well as in the spring decorations. Craft ideas for snowdrops as decoration or creative activity

If you are looking for beautiful craft ideas for spring, then snowdrops are the right choice for you. The early bloomers are considered the first sign of spring and symbolize the end of winter. You can paint, craft or fold these delicate flowers and turn them into a beautiful decoration yourself. The craft ideas for children are suitable for both at home and for kindergarten or school.

While real snowdrops only bloom between winter and spring and are not very durable as indoor decorations, the handmade ones bloom all year round. Whether made of paper, fabric or another material, they can be used as decoration for years to come.

Which materials are suitable?

Various materials can be used to make these delicate flowers yourself. Folded flowers are a suitable idea for DIY projects with children. With tissue paper and wire, however, you can make really realistic-looking snowdrops and integrate them into your spring decorations. In addition to the white tissue paper, you will also need green and yellow paper, floral wire and green masking tape.

With several crafted snowdrops you can make a beautiful flower arrangement for the table decoration yourself. For this you will need a suitable container, such as a basket, floral foam and some moss for decoration.

DIY idea for children made from tissue paper and straw

As a creative DIY project for children, we recommend these snowdrops made from tissue paper and bent straws. The top of the straw is cut into three strips to create the inner petals. The middle of the flower is made from yellow tissue paper and the outer petals are made from white.

Crafting with beads

If you're good with craft wire and enjoy crafting with craft beads, you can make these creative snowdrops yourself. Green, white and yellow craft beads are used and threaded onto floral wire. Although this idea is much more complicated, the finished flowers look really beautiful.

Iron-on bead snowdrops

Snowdrops can also be usedmake from iron beads. The small plastic beads can be used to create beautiful pendants that you can use as original hanging decorations. Simply tie a string to the top of the crafted figure and hang it anywhere you like.

A template is usually used for crafting with iron-on beads, but simple motifs, like this snowdrop, can also be made without a template. You will need a breadboard and perler beads in white, yellow, light green and dark green. Simply pin the beads onto the breadboard to create the motif. You can use this image as a template. If you are happy with the motif, heat the iron to the highest setting. Place a piece of baking paper over the beads and iron until they fuse together. Wait a moment until the beads cool down a bit, then peel off the paper and remove the finished snowdrop from the breadboard.

snowdropcraft from felt

You can also make beautiful snowdrops for indoor spring decorations out of fabric. Craft felt is best suited for this. The flowers can be cut out of white felt and the leaves – from dark green. To turn the different pieces into finished flowers, you can use hot glue instead of sewing them together.

Flowers made of foam rubber

Pretty snowdrops can also be made from foam rubber for spring. The foam-like material is suitable for creating the white flowers and green leaves. However, you should use a different material for the stems, such as crepe paper or tissue paper.

Crafts with children in spring

Colored paper is best for crafting with children. If you want to make simple snowdrops with small children, you will need white and green paper for the flower and a contrasting sheet of paper as a base.

First, cut three strips of white paper and tape the two ends of each strip together. These are the flower petals. Then cut a semicircle out of green paper and glue it onto the flower petals. Cut out a few strips with pointed ends again from the green paper for the leaves. Then glue everything onto the colored paper to create the flower. You can make the stem out of paper or simply paint it on the leaf.

To make paper snowdrops in a pretty vase, you will need 5 wide strips of paper. Each strip should be a few millimeters longer than the previous one. Then put some glue on both ends of the shortest strip and stick them horizontally on the sheet, not completely stretching the strip but leaving it slightly curved. Then continue with the rest of the stiffeners until you finish the vase. Then just stick the crafted snowdrops in and you're done.

Instructions for a paper vase with snowdrops

Instead of sticking the vase on the piece of paper, the children can also make a craft. We have provided you with an idea that works super quickly. For these beautiful vases with snowdrops all you need is colored paper, scissors, colored string and a glue stick.

Start with the vases. Take a sheet of green paper, fold it in half lengthways and glue the edges together with the glue stick. Then cut some wide fringes with scissors all along the sheet on the folded side. Now roll up the whole piece and glue the two ends together. The vase is ready.

Now it's the turn of the snowdrops. Cut out several strips of white paper. Take three strips and glue the edges together. Then glue the three ends together to make the snowdrop. Cover the glue with a small piece of green paper. To fill the vases with spring flowers, simply glue the flowers to the fringes and you're done.

This is how it works with crepe paper

Beautiful snowdrops can be made from crepe paper and used as creative decorations for spring. Since crepe paper is usually a bit thin and easy to tear, you can glue two sheets of crepe paper together to make it stronger. To create the snowdrop flowers, you will need a long piece of paper for the inner petals and three elongated drops for the outer petals.

The dark green crepe paper is needed for the leaves and stem of the snowdrop. Twist the pieces of paper as shown above to make the leaves. Alternatively, you can also cut out simple leaves from the crepe paper.

To create the snowdrop, you should first wrap the top end with cotton wool and glue the white flowers to it. For the snowdrop stem, you will need floral wire wrapped with florist's tape and green crepe paper.

Bend the made snowdrop down a little and you're done. For a beautiful spring decoration, we recommend making several flowers and using them to create a beautiful flower vase.

In the video you will find further step-by-step instructions for these pretty flowers made of crepe paper.

Quilling technique: crafting with strips of paper

Have you ever seen paper crafts like this, where small strips of paper are rolled up and shaped into a specific figure? This is the so-called paper quilling technique, in which you make crafts with strips of paper using a special tool. If you already know the quilling technique, you can also use it to make early bloomers.

Quilling snowdrops are rolled up from strips of white and green paper, which are then glued together. For this technique, special quilling paper is available that is already cut into strips and ready to be rolled up.

Quilling can be used to make and decorate creative greeting cards for Easter and spring. The result is a beautiful 3D motif that is very popular with greeting cards.

Those who are more advanced in the quilling technique for crafting with paper strips can make entire baskets of snowdrops themselves and use them as a great spring decoration. These flower baskets are also a wonderful idea for homemade gifts for friends or family.

Egg carton is another material that can be used to create many things. You can also use it to make snowdrops and decorate beautiful flower vases. To create the flowers, cut out the middle cones that protrude upwards. Then mark the center of each side and connect them to the corners. Now cut out the resulting triangles and the shape is ready.

With these and other spring flowers made of egg carton you can create beautiful flower vases as decorations with children.

Paper plates are another great craft material that can be used for creative craft projects with the children. Now we would like to show you how to decorate a paper plate with homemade snowdrops and use them to make a pretty window picture.

First, cut out the bottom of a paper plate, leaving only the edge of the plate. Then stick a piece of transparent adhesive film on the back so that the sticky side faces upwards. Cut off the excess film with scissors.

Then make the snowdrops. Cut out the petals from the white paper and the stems and leaves from the green paper. Shape the snowdrops and attach them to the adhesive film. Cover the bottom edge with some cotton wool to make snow. Either stick the finished window decoration directly on the window or attach a string and hang it near the window.
