However, we have a wonderful alternative for you to consider, especially if you not only want to save but are also a fan of DIY projects. You can easily make a carpet yourself. The whole thing becomes particularly easy if you follow one of our instructions.

Make your own carpet out of pompoms

A wide variety of things can be made with pompoms. They are onefriendly accessoriesnot only for clothing but also for decorations. That's why they're great for making a home rug. You can use any colors for this. Different shades of blue were used in the example.

They can be used to create an effective ombre design. The blue colors create a maritime flair. Get wool in different shades, colors or one color, as well as a non-slip rubber mat. You will also need a ruler, a felt-tip pen and scissors. And that's all you need.

First you should determine the size. Draw these on the mat with the felt-tip pen. Make sure you draw a straight line. Then cut out the mat along the lines with scissors. Now you have finished the foundation and you can work on the wool.

It doesn't take much effort to make the pompoms yourself. However, depending on the size of the carpet, you should allow for a lot of time if you want to make the carpet yourself. First, take the darkest shade and wrap the wool thread around your four fingers several times. Cut the thread. Then take the wool from your fingers as shown and knot it in the middle with the end of the thread.

You will need another piece of wool thread, which you will also tie in the middle. You can also simply leave a longer piece hanging when you cut the thread from the ball of yarn. Finally, cut the two loops that have been created and you have your first finished pompom. So don't waste time and get to work right away.

You can immediately make pompoms from the different shades. However, we recommend starting with one color, decorating the mat with it and only then moving on to the next shade. This will give you a better estimate of how many pom poms you will need for each shade.

Now push the long wool thread through one of the holes in the mat and then back through another hole. Make a loop. You then use this loop to tie a tight knot. To go seeker, it's best to choose a double knot. Now repeat this step until the size of the dark blue part is sufficient.

Make sure you choose the right distance between each pompom. If the distance is too great, the rubber mat will be visible, which doesn't look particularly pretty. If it is too small, the carpet cannot appear beautifully fluffy and loose. Try it. If necessary, you can rearrange the pom-poms later.

Of course, you can repeat the same thing later with the other nuances. To achieve an even transition between the colors, you can also create a few rows of pom-poms, combining the previous and subsequent colors with each other.

with striped pattern

Wool is also needed for this idea, but you won't be making pom-poms here. Again, use any colors that match the decor of your chosen room. Get wool, a knotting template, scissors and a knotting hook. Determine the size in advance to choose the appropriate template.

Fold one edge of the rug over once or twice and wrap a thread around it to secure that edge. Repeat the whole thing again with all other edges. Now cut many pieces of wool. You decide the length yourself, depending on how high you want the carpet to be. Wool is also available ready-cut, but is a little more expensive.

You can then use the latch hook to attach the individual wool threads to the template. Don't miss a stitch. the For the way just follow the instructions. Once you have reached the desired width of the first stripe, move on to the next color. Count the stitches on the first strip to make all strips the same width. It's another time-consuming project, but definitely worth it!

Instead of knotting and knotting, you can also make a woven carpet yourself from fabric. This option may not be quite as time-consuming as the two predecessors, but it is just as affordable. You will need approximately 4 meters of black fabric. Wide fabric is best. Then get some white fabric, which you will need plenty of, as well as wooden strips to build a frame out of, nails, scissors, a ruler and a pencil.

First, assemble the frame. . Attach nails to the shorter strips about one centimeter apart. For the example, 66 nails were used for each side. Then cut strips out of the white fabric as shown. The width should be approximately 2.5 cm. The result is a zigzag pattern that makes it unnecessary to constantly tie individual strips together. Tie one end to the outermost nail, tighten the strip to the opposite nail and then pull it back down. Repeat until the strip is used up. You may need another white stripe.

Then cut out a strip like this from the black fabric. You then begin to thread this onto the white stripes so that a weaving pattern is created: first over one white stripe, then under the next, again over the third, under the fourth and so on. At the beginning and end, knot the black strip tightly to create pretty fringes. You can also add fringes at the very end. Create a few rows this way and then skip some to create a striped pattern.

With a little imagination and experimentation you can create a wide variety of patterns. A template can prove to be very helpful here. Draw or print any pattern or motif on a large sheet of paper and place it in the frame. Alternate the colors of the template accordingly.

Round carpet made of ropes

Of course you can also create a round carpet. For this original idea you don't need a lot of materials. You can also choose them individually, depending on what suits you most. You can find out how to do this in the following instructions.

Ropes in different colors, bobble cord and tassels were used for the example rug. You will also need cardboard, thread, a ruler and scissors. Before you start with theOn the webTo get started, you need to prepare the cardboard. Cut them out in a circle shape or buy them in that shape.

Stretch several threads on the cardboard from the center point outwards. The end result should resemble rays of sunshine. The distance to each thread should be the same. To achieve this, you can pre-draw the lines with a ruler and pencil. In principle, the whole thing works like cutting a round cake. First halve, then quarter, eighth and so on. You will now use this product for weaving.

Now start again at the center and work your way outwards. Wrap the first rope on the cardboard in a circle shape. Proceed as with the fabric carpet above. First over the yarn, then under it, over it again and so on. If you have enough of the first rope color, switch to the next one. The order doesn't matter. Let your imagination run wild.

Now repeat these steps until you reach the end. Tie a tight knot to prevent the last rope from coming loose. You can then attach tassels, fringes or bobbles to the edge to create an interesting finish.
