You're looking for ideas for Halloween decorations, butjust pumpkinsor have the usual spiders become too boring for you? Then we have the perfect idea for you! How about a witch's broom for a change - or several? As you will see from our Halloween decoration ideas, these make a really great impression both in the house and outside. You can of course buy a broom with a Halloween design or redesign a finished broom according to your ideas. However, today we would like to show you how you can make a witch's broom and give you some creative ideas on how you can use it to decorate.
Since you most likely won't be sweeping with the broom, you don't need to use dense bristles when making the witch's broom. So it's enough if you use the bristleswith a few branchesor indicate grasses. For the broom style, you can buy a ready-made one from a hardware store and then design it in any color you like using tape or other materials.
But we think that a naturally crooked branch goes particularly well with a witch's broom and gives it the finishing touch. But that ultimately depends on your idea for Halloween decorations. You can also make brooms and sweepers of different sizes. For example, small hand brushes are used to create a door wreath for Halloween orfor the table decorationwonderfully suitable. So you have free choice!
Make a witch's broom - simple instructions
The following instructions serve as a basis. The broom can be made in any size and from different materials, so that you can adapt the model to your own ideas. Broadly speaking, here's how you can make a witch's broom:
- Broom handle or thin branch
- Material for the bristles, such as thin twigs or grass as in the example, wool or even tinsel for extravagant brooms
- String or wire for tying
Take your bristle material and spread it out in front of you. Then place the broom handle on top and wrap the material around the broom handle. If you use twigs when making the witch's broom yourself, you can tie them directly with string or wire and then trim them a little if necessary. Grasses are also suitable for denser broom bristles. For these and other soft materials, do the following:
Spread the material out in front of you again. Place the handle on top, with the long side initially pointing in the same direction as the bristle ends, which later point downwards (in the wrong direction, so to speak). Wrap them around the stem and tie them tightly. Then fold the grass, wool or tinsel down and tie string or wire around it again. This way the top ends will be hidden.
Tipp: If you use soft material such as tinsel or wool for the bristles when making your own witch's broom, these materials should be tied further up the broom style so that it can serve as a support. In the second picture guide you can see how far the stem should protrude.
Make and design witch brooms
You can leave the finished brooms as they are or design them additionally. Of course, typical Halloween colors are particularly suitable. Use spray paint or, if you have purchased a broom with dense bristles, acrylic paints to paint it. Glitter is also a great idea with which you can...more glamorous HalloweenObtained witch's broom. Simply sprinkle glitter onto the still wet paint or onto spray adhesive that you have previously applied.
Also loopsor Halloween motifssuch as ghosts, bats, pumpkins or paper spiders as well as cobwebs can decorate the broom and make it something very special. You can put a witch's hat on the broomstick or you can use the handle like a coat hook and hang the witch's robe on it. There are absolutely no limits to your creativity.
Decoration with broom
After you've made your witch's broom, you'll definitely want to decorate with this witch's broom! Numerous variations are possible depending on the broom size! The broom can stand, hang and also lie down: for example, put it in front of youto the front dooror in the corner of a room and feel free to combine several. In groups, the witches' brooms look very friendly and also give the impression that a witches' meeting is taking place.
We also really like the idea of hanging the broom above the dining table, creating a great atmosphere during meals. But a witch's broom can also hang on the wall or front door. And they are often even decorated in the form of hand brushesa Halloween door wreath, the mantel or a window. Have you planned a party? Decoration ideas for Halloween
The Halloween broom can be used wonderfully for interesting arrangements to create a very individual Halloween decoration. Whether pumpkins, ravens and cobwebs like in the example above or lanterns, witch's shoes and even garlic - in addition to the typical Halloween motifs, you can of course also incorporate autumn motifs into the decoration.
Black broom on the porch and door wreath alternative
On the veranda, the brooms warmly welcome guests and children during the parade and can simply be leaned against a free wall. But a small hand brush can also be used wonderfully as an alternative to the classic, round door wreath and combined with other elements.
Make a witch's broom as a table decoration with a name tag for the Halloween party
As already mentioned, you can make small witches' brooms and then use them as table decorations at a party. Whether you use it to decorate the center of the table (a large broom also looks great laid lengthwise on the table) or attach name tags and then place them on each plate is up to you. Either way, this original idea will really make a big impression and put everyone present in the right mood.
Rustic Halloween decoration for the wall with a sign and fabric pumpkins
If you like rustic flair and value this style on Halloween, a homemade Halloween broom is exactly the right choice. The natural materials will blend in wonderfully with the rest of the rustic decoration and even give it the finishing touch. Combine antique items with wood and some fabric decorations (aren't these pumpkins just adorable?) and let the Halloween fun begin!
Make a face on the witch's broom
With a little imagination, you can create a fun Halloween decoration with the broom by giving it a face. Put a witch's hat on him, glue on a pair of googly eyes and then make a mouth and a nose out of any material such as foam rubber, paper or fabric. Admittedly, this decoration idea isn't particularly scary, but the kids are guaranteed to love it!
Halloween colors with a difference: pastel colors for party decorations and brooms made of tulle
Would you like to use different colors this year, but aren't sure how they will work? The example above is proof that you can sometimes stray from the rules without distracting from the actual topic. So how about making a witch's broom out of tulle and using these friendly pastel colors? You can then design the rest of the party decorations in the same way. If you use enough typical Halloween motifs, the unusual color scheme won't be a problem!
