Christmas is a festive time that arouses certain ideas for decoration. This usually means shiny Christmas balls in different colors, artificial or real fir branches, golden bows and bells – lots of kitsch. The typical decorative elements can be arranged differently and designed according to your own taste. Make your own modern Advent wreath to suit your more puristic living ambience.
Advent wreaths are symbols for the remaining days from the beginning of December to Christmas Eve. Originally they were made from oneold wagon wheelmade of a wooden wreath, decorated with fir branches and marked with a candle every day in December. There was a larger candle for each Sunday of the month. Today the wreath has become more reduced and the number of candles is limited to four - for each week of December. The shape has not necessarily remained round - no longer necessarily that of a wreath.
Traditionally they existWreaths of four candlesand that's all that's left from back then. Modern interpretations come in numerous variations. Basically, each candlestick or holder serves exactly four candles. Alternatively, flat, elongated plates are available, especially for decorating. Instead of fir greenery, you can use moss or small plants, including succulents, and use them to decorate the candles. Small bowls and even jam jars work wonderfully for this. Forget the numbers for each week of Advent – from one to four. You can simply print these out using a copier and stick them on or put them on as small signs. Add some small cones and sticks as well as driftwood and make one yourself.
You can create your own with very little effort. Take four block candles in the color you want - all four can be the same color or two by two. Look for a flat plate, round or rectangular according to your taste, plain, simple. Get small items for decoration - individual pieces of Christmas decorations, decorative stones, stars and others.
Cut a circle out of cardboard in a matching color - white cardboard to the white board. Place the candles on it. This piece of cardboard protects the plate from the candle wax. Arrange as you wish and unleash your creativity.
If you use candles of the same size, number them. Decorate with numbers and digits from one to four made from sheet metal, felt, wooden paper or simply labeled with a black marker. Metal bowls and plates add an individual touch. Old baking tins for mini tarts or cake bases can find a new use and be used instead of a plate for the candles.
