In December the house is festively decorated and an Advent wreath is placed on the table. He plays a prominent role and is an inseparable part of the Christmas decorations. Traditionally it is designed in the shape of a circle - a symbol of infinity, closely linked to Christianity. Four candles are placed on the wreath - one for each Sunday. With a modern interpretation, the candles can be beautifully arranged in a decorative bowl or plate for a change. Another imaginative idea would be to make a colorful Advent wreath out of balls and create a cheerful atmosphere on the table.
The custom in whichAdvent season a wreathis relatively new - known since 1848. Originally there were a total of 28 candles on a woven ring made of fir - 4 large white ones and 24 small red ones in between. The thick white candles symbolized Sundays, and the small ones - working days. In the evening these were lit one after the other. On the Sunday before Christmas Eve, all the candles were lit to provide cozy light throughout the room. The wreath of candles hung in churches as candlesticks and was a few meters in diameter. People wanted to carry this tradition home, so the size of the wreath and the number of candles had to shrink.
Today the wreath consists of four candles, usually white or red, traditionally arranged in a circle. It can vary in shape and be made from all kinds of materials. Products made from small used objects and natural materials are particularly creative. Christmas baubles put you in a good mood and attract attention thanks to their shiny, mirrored look. Not only Christmas tree baubles look colorful and cheerful, but also others made from various materials.
The strollers or pompoms made of yarn also look round and spherical. You can easily make them yourself and sew them on or glue them onto any base. Suitable bases made of Styrofoam, cardboard or straw are available in hobby shops. The decorative elements can be easily attached using hot glue. With Styrofoam products, the adhesive could fuse the material, so test carefully on the lower side first
If several yarns are produced, it is advisable to use wool yarn in different colors but with the same thread thickness. Wool is a natural fiber and, unlike those of artificial origin, it is flame-retardant and does not burn, but only chars. In the environment of flaming candles, this property is essentially an advantage.
Another type of soft pompom is the cheerful felt balls in bright colors. You can either make these yourself or, of course, buy them ready-made. Felt balls are usually 1.5-2 cm in diameter and can therefore be tied together close together. To do this, you simply use a needle and thread. Our tip: start arranging the felt balls at the bottom to create stability and support.
Instead of traditional Christmas tree baubles, others with a similar shape can be used for crafts. Natural materials such as walnuts and hazelnuts, acorns, chestnuts and cones are easy to find and are perfect for imaginative craft projects. These just need to be dry and clean of dust so that they can be glued together well.
The next craft project serves as real inspiration for the coming Advent season. The nuts used shimmer in silver and are hardly noticeable. They give an authentic and particularly interesting structure that is eye-catching.
A Styrofoam wreath with a diameter of your choice serves as the basis. A candle holder is incorporated into four points with the same distance between them. Then the entire collection of nuts comes into use - walnuts and hazelnuts, acorns, chestnuts, almonds, all of which are placed close together on the Styrofoam wreath. Use hot glue or moment glue for this purpose.
When gluing the nuts, it is advisable to apply the glue (especially hot glue) to the nut, then fix it to the Styrofoam shortly before it hardens and press it lightly. Small Christmas balls can be inserted between the nuts to make the structure even more interesting. When everyone is placed close together and the adhesive is completely dry or hardened, the Advent wreath can be designed in color.
It is best to use spray paint that is not acetone based. Acetone and other chemicals dissolve Styrofoam, so research carefully in advance to ensure the paint is right for the material. Color in metallic tones for optimal visual effect.
In order to make your own Advent wreath out of balls, you should first remove the hangers from the Christmas ball. This means they can be attached to the foundation flawlessly and stably.
When it comes to color design, stick to the principle - combine a neutral color with an intense color to create a stylish table decoration. In our example, cool colors have been chosen – silver and shimmer turquoise, and perhaps in conjunction with the rest of the Christmas decorations.
In the modern version, the circular shape is not mandatory. The number of candles remains fixed and the rest of the design is more or less left to personal taste. Here we offer a very simple, unpretentious, even purist variant that can be implemented in just a few minutes.
As always, this modern version of the traditional wreath requires four beautiful, large candles, decorative sand, Christmas balls and a decorative bowl. It would be nice if all the materials matched in color, ideally in color harmony. Put the sand in the bowl and arrange the candles next to each other. Simply hang the balls on the candles and the minimalist Advent wreath is ready!
