In January we redecorate our home and create great winter decorations from natural materials. We offer you several simple ideas on how you can decorate your house, apartment and garden discreetly and stylishly at the same time. You can make your own beautiful winter decorations with cones, twigs and fresh flowers and spread a cozy feeling after Christmas.
Especially after Christmas, everyone is sure to have a few fir or pine branches left at home. And even if you have already tidied up the Christmas decorations, a walk in nature is often enough to collect materials for winter decorations. You need several wooden discs in which you drill holes with a diameter of 1 cm. It is best to use a wood drill for this purpose. Then insert the branches into the holes. If they wobble, you can fix them with glue.
For theGarland in the living room: Dissolve the fabric colors in the water and add a piece of cotton rope to the water (do not press the rope under the water, but let it float). Leave the rope in the water for about 24 hours, then take it out, wrap it around and tie two tips of pine branches at the end.
Make your own natural table decorations after Christmas with spruce cones
A table decoration doesn't have to be complicated. All you need are natural materials such as pine cones, cypress branches and dried seed pods or dried flowers from floristry supplies to conjure up a creative, stylish and fresh winter decoration. Fill small glass vases with gravel and insert stick candles into them. Plant old teacups with moss or grass and arrange the natural materials in the middle of the table.
Winter decoration in January with amaryllis flowers
Amaryllis produce flowers between 5 and 10 cm in size. They are ideal as cut flowers as long as you cut them off when they are still closed. The cut flowers can stay fresh for up to 14 days as long as the stems are cut diagonally every two or three days. This allows the flowers to absorb water. Display the flowers in tall glass bottles. Place the bottles on moss plate coasters or on a moss plate, or drape moss between the bottles. Several LED candles will further emphasize the decoration.
Table decoration in Scandi style: bleach cones
Cones offer many advantages: They last for a very long time and look good in combination with conifer branches and berries as well as with fresh flowers. If you want a purist decoration in Scandinavian style, you can choose bleached cones. You just need to get a bleaching agent - usually hydrogen peroxide (3.5%) from the drugstore and then dissolve about 2 tablespoons in 3 liters of water. Use a plastic bucket and wear rubber gloves. Place the cones in the water so that they do not touch each other and leave them there for about 20 minutes. Then take them out and let them dry on paper towels. The next day you can arrange them in bowls with other natural materials as you wish.
Decoration after Christmas: make a garland for the living room
What makes winter decoration so appealing is that you can use the natural materials that are left over after Christmas and then stage them differently. Spring motifs such as birds and flowers are present and are an important part of the winter decoration. The color palette is simple and reserved - white, light blue, gray, green and brown round it off. This creates the perfect ensemble for the transitional period after Christmas and before spring.
Example: Driftwood garland. A bird figure is glued to the driftwood. Pine cones are dyed ice blue and hung from driftwood with white twine. The winter decoration is ready and can decorate the entrance to the house or the living room wall.
“Winter Wonderland” decoration with various cones and wine corks
Anyone can make the next beautiful decoration in the “Winter Wonderland” style at home. You will need pine, pine and pine cones of various sizes. Spray paint two cones ice blue or silver, two cones gold or brass, two sky blue, and one pink. Glue the cones to wine corks and the beautiful decoration is ready. Arrange the cones in front of a decorative wooden birdhouse and line the area between the cones with cotton.
Make your own winter decorations for the balcony and garden
In sub-zero temperatures you can “freeze” a beautiful decoration made from natural materials. You can use large silicone ice cream molds. Place the natural materials in the mold and fill it with water. Then put them in the freezer. The next day, remove the ice cream from the mold and display the decorative element outdoors.

For larger arrangements, you can use a floral foam ball from the florist supply store. We already have a guide on how to do itFlowers from the pine conescan craft.
