At what income are you actually considered rich? Find out if you are in the top 10% or even the richest 1%!

Prosperity – a dream that many harbor. Luxury villas, private jets and a yacht – these are the images that immediately come to mind when we think of “being rich”. But did you know that you don't have to have any of that to be officially considered rich?

With this income you are among the richest 10%

According to a survey of around 16,000 households by the Socio-Economic Panel in 2017, a single person who has a net monthly income of 3,529 euros was considered richInformation service of the Institute of German Economy(iwd) reported.

As a couple living in a household without children, one was considered rich with an income of 5,840 euros. A family with two children belonged to the rich 10% with a net income of just under 8,200 euros.

These income limits have now shifted somewhat. According to thatInstitute of German EconomySingles with a net income of 3,700 euros or more per month and couples with a net income of 5,550 euros or more are considered the richest 10%.

To be in the top 1%, however, you had to go the extra mile. Because then as a single you should have a monthly net income of 7,044 euros in 2017. A couple without children had to earn 10,567 euros and a family with two children had to achieve a net income of 14,793 euros to be among the 1% of the richest Germans.

Here too, the income limit has shifted slightly. Singles are now considered to be among the richest 1% with a net income of 7,190 euros.

Most citizens assume a higher income in order to be considered rich

Admittedly, it is obvious that with such an income you are not poor. But rich? That's surprising. This is also confirmed by the iwd, because in 2018 most German citizens assumed that singles were only considered rich with a monthly net income of between 7,000 and 10,000.
