What do you have to consider?

When designing your own flower basket, you need to choose a variety of plant species but also consider their different growth rates. It is better to choose plants in the upper part of the basket that give a lot of fullness and develop vertically. On the outside of the basket you should have different climbing plants in stages. The arrangement in the flower basket is particularly important because the following conditions must be met:

– How strong is the natural light where you want to place your small hanging garden? Consider this: in the morning the sun shines quite strongly in the east, in the afternoon it is in the west, your flower baskets are in partial shade, deep shade, etc.

– Which color would best suit your overall exterior design concept? You can choose a basket in one color combination or prefer to create a colorful combination of different colors and shades. A third option would be to create a composition using only green ornamental plants.

– And last but not least, you also have to take into account the texture of the planted species, that is, think about the shape and size of the leaves, the color density and shades, etc.

What is necessary to create a hanging basket?
– Firstly, you need a wicker basket orany wire basket, maybe also a flower pot with a hanger.
– Peat moss (Sphagnum) about 300 g (depending on the size of the basket) or a special material for lining the inside of the basket. If you choose a hanging potted garden, the peat moss is not necessary. – soil – for blooming flowers and green plants (depending on the size of the basket);
– Hook for hanging the unit;
– The plants you have chosen – 3 to 15 pieces in the flower basket depending on its size.

Use yourself

1. Soak the moss or substrate covering the inside of the basket by hand and leave it like this for a few hours or overnight. Squeeze out excess water before planting;
2. Carefully water all plants before planting. When planting, gently stretch the roots of each plant before placing it in the basket;
3. Install the hangers so the basket hangs horizontally. The easiest way to plant the basket is when it is hung. Use extension hangers if necessary to place the basket at the correct work level and height.
4. Spread peat moss along the walls of the basket. If you use a flower pot, then all activities with peat moss are redundant;

5. Fill the basket with soil suitable for your chosen flower species.
6. When planting, you must first start with the climbing plants, which are usually placed on the edge of the basket. Only then can you work on the flowers and green plants in the middle of the basket.
7. Pay attention to the combination of colors - place flowers next to each other whose colors harmonize well. Ultimately, your hanging basket needs to be a great sight.
8. When designing such a plant, you usually start at the top of the basket, ie with the tallest plants, and then work around them to achieve a balance between leaves and flowers.
9. When you are finished planting, add soil, if necessary, so that the level of the soil is below the edge of the basket;
10. Water abundantly, add liquid fertilizer to promote the development of flowers and green plants;
11. Check the soil moisture in the basket once every few days and add more water if the top soil is dry.

How do you continue to care for them?

– Your colorful flower basket should be watered regularly to ensure sufficient moisture for the types of flowers planted there.
– To ensure balanced growth of the planted flowers, simply rotate the basket every week and try to ensure that each flower gets the required amount of sunlight;
– Remove spent flowers regularly;
– Encourage the growth of your flowers and greenery in the hanging basket by adding liquid fertilizer once a month;
– Admire your hanging flower basket, you will definitely enjoy it every day.
