You can easily create a herb wall on the balcony using pallets by simply leaning them against the wall without damaging them. However, if you don't mind screwing the pallet tight, you can also easily hang hanging boxes on the slats. Take a look for yourself:

Practical, space-saving herb palette for a vertical garden
Both variants are practical and ultimately guarantee youfresh herbs. You decide for yourself which one is better for you.
Planted pallets for a herb bed on the balcony
You can build your own herb bed by planting directly on the Euro pallets. All you need to do is prepare them a little.
How to build a vertical bed yourself:
- If you want a coat of paint, sand the wood and then varnish it.
- For planting, use the gaps between the sides with the slats and the back boards/beams.
- Cut coconut mats or fleece. The pieces should be wide enough to completely fill the bottom opening while also providing additional material in all directions to attach to the pallet.
- Place the coconut mat in the opening and staple it securely with a wooden stapler.
- Trim off any excess material on the sides.
- Place the pallet against the wall and check whether it is stable. You may need to raise the front a little (e.g. with a wedge) or tilt it so that the wooden pallet slopes backwards towards the wall.
- Fill the hollows with potting soil and plant the herb plants. Water them.
- You can hang a hanging pot on the side to store garden tools and gloves.
- Label the plants in your pallet herb garden as desired. You could use boards that you screw to the front.

Instead of fleece or coconut mats, you can also hang flower boxes directly in the gaps if the size is right. The edges of the boxes should be wider than the gap, while the cavity for planting must fit there.
Another variant would be to close the underside of the gaps for planting with wooden boards, so that you get wooden boxes, so to speak, in which you can place pots etc.

Another way to build a herb wall on the balcony out of pallets would be to screw them to a free wall. Get advice from the hardware store about the right materials to secure the wooden pallet securely and stably.

A wall made of Euro pallets is particularly advantageous if the lower area of the wall is used for other purposes, e.g. B. for balcony furniture or other potted plants.
Speaking of balcony furniture: you can also make it from Euro palletsBuild furniture.
If your balcony herb rack is hanging securely on the wall, you can hang hanging pots in the gaps between the boards. You can play with the heights and spacing and create an interesting arrangement. You can also hang a few pots with flowers here and there in between. In winter, simply take them down again to add new plants the next season.

If you don't like the palette as it is or it doesn't fit on your wall, you can rearrange it however you want. It can be easily disassembled, cut and reassembled. So you can create your own little work of art.
