Pruning cucumbers: Simple instructions with pictures show which leaves and shoots to remove

Step 2: Remove excess flower buds

If the cucumber plants are healthy and feel comfortable in their location, they produce excessive amounts of fruit. If they all stand still, the result will be small and slowly ripening fruits. It is therefore much better to cut off some of the fruit bases. The rule of thumb applies: leave a maximum of two fruit sets per shoot. The fruit bases, which are at the very bottom, can also be removed. They don't get enough sunlight to produce healthy fruit. And rotting fruit can attract pests. It is therefore best to cut or snap these off as quickly as possible.
