Planting flowers in autumn – marigold (Calendula officinalis)
A common annual plant is marigold(Calendula officinalis). You can easily propagate marigolds from seeds in the fall: sow them outdoors or in a container. The orange flowers can be several centimeters large and you can promote flower production by picking off the excess flowers. Marigold is grown in temperate climates as an annual flowering herb. It belongs to the Asteraceae family, which also includes chrysanthemums and daisies. After sowing, it takes about six to eight weeks for it to bloom. It's developing quite quickly.
Marigolds have been around for a long timefor therapeutic purposesused, but modern gardeners cultivate the plants for their cheerful flowers and profuse flowering. From June until the first frost, these blooming beauties can be spotted in a variety of colors, including the typical yellows, oranges and reds.
What blooms in autumn? Sun Bride (Helenium autumnale)
The Sun Bride(Helenium autumnale)is a plant species endemic to the USA and southern Canada. It thrives best in low, moist meadows or on the edges of forests, which are often damp. However, gardeners have expanded the variety of this species to include all sorts of golds, oranges, reds and browns, going far beyond the simple daisy-like yellow bloom of the native species. Butterflies can be found in the flowers of the sun bride throughout the summer and autumn (June – October).
The plants are easily recognized by their stiff, upright stems and lance-shaped leaves. Supporting higher plant varieties is necessary. Planting the sun bride begins in early spring - but you can plant the plant in both spring and autumn. Cottage gardens and wildflower gardens are great for their understated beauty. Groups of three or five Helenium plants produce the best results.

Beautiful gladioli (Gladiolus)
The Gladioli(Gladiolus)can create a veritable explosion of flower colors in the garden. Gladiolus are also known as swordflowers and belong to the Iridaceae plant family. If you have limited garden space but still want to create a dramatic bed, choose fast-growing gladioli. They can reach a height of 60 to 150 cm. Because of their short root systems, annual plants have a small footprint despite the dramatic vertical accent they provide. A dozen gladiolus bulbs in one pot is more than enough for the smallest balcony garden.
Gladiolus flowers are the perfect allies for your vegetable garden. The bright flower colors stand out among rows of beans and squash, and the pollinating insects they attract boost tomato yields. Fill the gaps left by pulling up spring vegetables with gladiolus bulbs. These flowering plants are perennial but not hardy.
Important information:Dogs, cats and cattle are easily poisoned by gladioli: animals in captivity may show signs of drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea and nausea. Contact your veterinarian immediately if any of the animals in your care have eaten tubers.
