A staircase in the houseBuilding and observing all dimensions and provisions is considered a high level of manual art. However, the situation is different with an outdoor staircase in the garden. Especially when the property is not on one level, but on the slope, a few stages are always required. There are several options to design the level differences in the garden. Most of the time, however, ready -made construction stages are possible, which have a great weight and do not always optimally correspond to the respective circumstances. If the slope is not too strong, in many cases it is sufficient to lay stones or gravel on the garden path. Otherwise, a simple wooden outdoor staircase is an excellent variant that can be perfectly integrated into any natural garden design.

Simple outdoor stairs made of wood and gravel: stick staircase
Probably the simplest and fastest solution for an outdoor staircase made of wood in the natural garden is a stick staircase. It is characterized by a simple construction made of pfel, plane or boards and the space is alsoGravel or gravelFilled. You can often find stick stairs while hiking in the forest. They rarely look appealing, but they win primarily through simplicity and naturalness. It should also be borne in mind that depending on the quality, the material has a limited shelf life.
If you build a stick staircase, you first have to remove the floor in the places provided and put on a slope. Then boards are laid across and the space is filled with soil and then filled with gravel. The steps should be twice as long as high, otherwise they will not hold. For safety, two strong wooden piles can be installed on both sides.
If you want to use thick wooden planks for stair construction, you should first install them to wooden frames that remain open on one side. Build garden levels yourself: tips
Regardless of what kind of material one forThe garden stairsChoose, you have to calculate the correct step height and the advancement width. There is a universal stair formula that emanates from human physique and in particular from the steps of an adult. The optimal measure of one level is between 15 and 18 centimeters and is about 27 centimeters. A staircase with these dimensions of the steps is perceived as pleasant. If the steps are too high, you are forced to mountain climbing. If they are too flat, you have to go up and down with trippil steps. The stair formula is: 2 x step height + appearance = min. 63 and max. 65. In your own garden and especially if the outdoor stairs are not used several times a day, you can deviate from the ideal dimensions for design reasons. However, a certain convenience must be achieved and the stumbling risk must be excluded.
Build a simple outdoor staircase made of wood and gravel yourself: instructions
Before building a simple outer staircase made of wood and gravel yourself, you have to measure the level difference that the stairs should overcome. To do this, take a cord or a tape measure and tense it where the stairs should run. This measurement is essential so that the project succeeds. Ideally, the step height is 10-18 cm and the step depth is about 30 cm or more. If the stairs should also bend, then you can take your own shoe length as a starting measure and accordingly plan the steps.
If you have already determined the dimensions of the steps, you can prepare the basis or the wooden frames. To do this, cut the boards into the desired step height and a little longer than the desired free width. They remain open from one side and will be screwed to each other later. Therefore, you don't have to forget the holes for the screws.
Before assembly, it is advisable to pre -build the entire stairs and eliminate any difficulties in the actual building. When the wooden frames are ready, you have to prepare the surface.
In order for the steps to be well embedded and therefore stable, you have to dig up at least 10 cm of earth with the shape of the wooden frame. To do this, use a pick -up hoe and thus carefully process the topsoil for every level. In retrospect, the floor is compressed so that it does not give in and slips over time.
Before you place and assemble the wooden frames, it is advisable to use a water scale to roughly measure the foundation from topsoil as to whether the levels are correct and are rather straight. With each stage you have to dig a little deeper into the slope on the left and right.
Now you can put the individual stages together and connect. You should also use the water scale to determine whether everything is correct and the steps are straight. The individual wooden frames are fixed either with long bolts or with additional connecting elements on both sides.
After the steps are placed and correctly positioned in the slope, the material can be filled and compacted. About 10 centimeters you fill in with a floor and on top you leave a few centimeters and then put a layer of gravel on it.
It is advisable to interpret the appearance between the topsoil and the gravel layer with pond film or protective fleece. This prevents weeds from growing out and also lowering the pebbles.
When filling the steps, you can first lay a layer of gravel and then use the pebbles or possibly coarse and fine-grained gravel. For additional stability, it is recommended to give some soil, stones or gravel on both sides of the simple outer staircase made of wood.
An outer staircase made of wood and gravel is a relatively simple hobby gardener or home improvement task. However, even if you have used high -quality wood that is well suited for the outdoor area, you should treat it about once a year and check whether it is still stable. Even before you install the stairs, a wood glaze is mandatory.
