At every New Year's Eve celebration you can find lucky clover, the most famous lucky charm among plants. Discover below how you should care for a lucky clover to enjoy a beautiful houseplant or garden plant!
There are a few tips you should keep in mind to ensure that the New Year's lucky clover remains beautiful even after New Year's Eve.
Find the right location
As soon as the leaves of the lucky clover that you received as a New Year's Eve fall off, it is customary to remove it from the windowsill or living room table. This is because the potted lucky clover thrives in a bright, slightly cooler environment, such as a north-facing window in the bedroom, where the temperature is between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. The plants prefer to spend the summer outdoors. This clover thrives best in a sheltered, partially shaded spot with some light.

When and how to grow lucky clover
Oxalis tetraphylla thrives in climates with temperate winters and cool summers. If you live in a hot climate where summers are long and hot, plant the plant in a north-facing spot that has afternoon shade. Plant in rock gardens or raised beds if you have rainy winters.
As a house or garden plant, you can plant the bulbs in pots in autumn. May is the best month to take seedlings or annual plants outdoors. The bulbs are long, with a pointed and a round end. Lay them out vertically, with the pointed end facing up. You can plant the bottom half cut side up after cutting it in half. Place the bulbs 5 cm deep in the soil and pay attention to the planting distances - they should be at least 10 cm.
Container and soil for lucky clovers
Containers filled with a well-draining indoor potting mix are ideal for planting lucky clovers. Place the pots in a sunny spot and water them lightly before you see new growth. A deep container with drainage holes should be used as bulbs multiply quickly. The pot should have a diameter of 25 cm. Plant at a depth of 5 cm and a distance of 12 cm.
Water and fertilize the plant
Until new growth appears, water your plant lightly every two weeks. The germination process starts very slowly but accelerates quickly. Then water when the top layer of soil is dry. You should water less frequently in low light and more frequently in better light.
Use a slow-release fertilizer once a month during the growing season.

Overwinter the plant
When nighttime minimum temperatures fall below 10 degrees Celsius, you can bring potted oxalis plants indoors. During the winter you should keep the plants in a cool, dark and dry place as they go into hibernation. Remove any wilted leaves and do not fertilize. Place the oxalis plant back in bright, indirect light and continue seasonal care after the required rest period.
With proper care, they can become perennial plants even if they don't survive the harsh winters outdoors. Plant them in spring, water them gently and give them sun, and they will emerge from their hibernation in no time. Before planting the bulbs next spring, store them in a cool, dark place and cover them with moist peat moss.
Propagate lucky clover
When new growth begins in early spring, Oxalis bulbs can be easily divided as they multiply quickly. Propagation takes place automatically in the bed. If you care for your lucky clover properly, you can share it before New Year's Eve and make beautiful arrangements for your loved ones. Once you've decorated it to your heart's content, you can give it as a gift on New Year's Eve.
