More than 60 percent of Germans fast before Easter. Because if you choose an appropriate fasting plan, you will really do something good for your body. However, fasting should not be confused with starvation. We give you therapeutic fasting instructions that you can easily follow.

Basically, the body needs at least a week, optimally two weeks, to detoxify and relax. In any case, we strongly recommend discussing the program with your doctor - because people with certain illnesses or people who are underweight may not be able to endure therapeutic fasting for so long.

If fasting is combined with a daily walk, the body can detoxify and recover. By the way, fasting supposedly helps reduce stress.

Therapeutic fasting instructions – does fasting really help to detoxify the body and does fasting actually make you slim?

Scientists today don't agree on whether fasting actually detoxifies the body. Of course, if you avoid alcohol and meat for a while, your body will recover. In any case, every day we are exposed to pollutants in the air that prevent complete body detoxification.

Whether therapeutic fasting actually makes you slim and whether you can lose weight with it depends more on the way the food is prepared. Here the experts recommend boiling the products instead of frying them. But you definitely don't have to starve, because that could lead to the yo-yo effect.

Therapeutic fasting instructions – a fasting planner for 8 days

Day. 1 – The therapeutic fasting instructions begin with a day where the body can slowly get used to the new regime. In the morning it will beherbal teaor drank juice and ate fruit with yogurt. At lunchtime, brown rice is prepared with vegetables (it is best to prepare all dishes boiled or using a steamer). Between meals you can snack on nuts (but not more than 100 grams) and eat dry fruits. Drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day. In the evening you can make yourself a herbal tea and eat crispbread.

Day 2,3,4 – Start the morning with two cups of herbal tea and fruit. Drink 2 liters of water per day. You can snack on nuts (maximum 50 grams) and fruit between meals. For lunch, prepare rice or vegetable broth/rooster soup. In the evening you can eat curd cream and crispbread, or simply drink herbal tea with lemons.

Day 5,6 – Follow the nutrition plan from days 2,3 and 4. Start with light exercises at home. Measure your blood pressure and if you feel refreshed and fit, go for a walk for half an hour to an hour.

Day 7 – Stick to the diet plan and go jogging for half an hour. But be careful – only if you feel fit and well!

Day 8 – Start the morning with fruit salad and two cups of tea. At lunchtime you can eat vegetable porridge again and in the evening you can also eat vegetable porridge.

Our tip – as soon as Lent comes to an end, that doesn’t mean completely redesigning your eating regime and eating meat and sweets again. This needs to happen slowly, over 3-4 days. And you should avoid alcohol for at least another week.

You are not allowed to fast. Instead, you can simply serve more vegetables and fruits during the week, but children need eggs and meat and don't have to go without them.

Our tip – Before fasting, ask your doctor. Even if they agree with you and you feel unwell later in the week, seek further advice. Fasting can have negative effects on some people, so you should always seek advice in advance!
