Sliding doors as room dividers

Sliding doors as room dividers are becoming increasingly popular and their use in interior design has been very large in recent years. There is definitely a reason for this: sliding doors are an elegant, dimensionally accurate and sustainable design solution in our interior, which is why they are preferred by more and more homeowners. They are perfect room dividers. If you don't have much space in the room, you can easily divide it into zones.

Two types of structures can be distinguished: sliding along the wall or built-in sliding doors. The first type of sliding mechanisms is attached to the wall above the opening and the second mechanism is based on an existing wall, is fixed there and finished with a decorative system consisting of sliding mechanisms and frames. When opened, the sash comes between both walls. In both cases, the sliding doors can have a single or multiple leaves. Depending on the conditions and method of installation, they can be with ceiling or floor guidance. If they are held at the top it gives you more comfort, the rail can be hidden behind and be more aesthetically integrated. The floor position is usually chosen for doors in wide rooms, where they are used asstrange room dividersused. The leaves can be combined with each other, one fixed and one movable, for example, and the sliding door can be attached to one or two axes. An advantage here would be if the sliding door was cut exactly to the size of the room.

Which materials are suitable?

One could say that all known standard materials for furniture production are also appropriate here. For sliding doors as room dividers, chipboard, HDF, MDF and natural wood are mainly used. The use of different materials requires a variety of coatings that can be combined to match the interior. The often preferred combination is MDF with glass. Used particularly on the sliding door, the glass brings an airy feeling to the room and provides more light. The sliding door can be made entirely of glass. The type and weight of the material are of great importance, primarily for aesthetics, as the mechanisms are most important in a reliable sliding door.

What mechanisms are needed for assembly?

The prerequisite here is that the mounting mechanisms correspond to the door weight. According to the different types of installation and depending on the ceiling or floor guidance of the sliding doors, appropriate mechanisms are used. With wooden doors they can be easily hidden, but with glass doors you have to resort to various designer solutions so that they do not remain visible.

What is good to know before installation?

Before installation, it is necessary that the room floor, ceiling and walls are already finished. If the wall is decorative (plasterboard), it should still be strengthened in the part where you will insert the mechanisms. Wall must be perfectly vertical, then sliding is easy. Sound insulation in the interior should also be taken into account in advance so that you do not have problems in this regard later.

Prices and guarantee

The prices are relative because a lot depends on the material used, the size of the sliding system and the number of doors. The use of decorative materials also plays a role in pricing of course. The guarantee period is between one and five years. The security of the mechanisms is longer, the whole item has a minimum guarantee of one year!
