A child's room doesn't always have a lot of space for elaborate storage systems, so you have to be particularly creative. Fortunately, these days there are a variety of options in the form of shelves, boxes and other types of organizers that make storing school supplies in the children's room child's play.
Plan practical storage space
Look around the room and think about where there is room for smaller cupboards, (mobile) shelves or organizers. You want additional storage space, but you don't want the room to be too cluttered. After all, your child wants to play in it and be able to move freely.
Mobile shelves or cupboards
There are many different types of storage options. You just need to take the time and do a little research. For example, you could place a small kitchen shelf on wheels next to the desk to store the most important utensils. You can divide the individual compartments with smaller boxes made of wood or plastic to store smaller accessories such as erasers, pens or glue.
You could also divide each level of the movable shelf into upcoming lessons or set a level for each subject. The notebooks and textbooks for math lessons go in one of the shelves, those for German lessons in another, and so on.
Clear a shelf and use boxes
Maybe you wanted to finally clear out again anyway? Then it may well be that you can even free up an entire shelf or one or two cupboard compartments. To do this, you may have to reorganize the existing items. In any case, you can then prepare several boxes that you can also label depending on the contents: colored pencils, crayons, paper, empty notebooks, craft materials, etc. You can also designate a box for each compartment.
You can't just equip a cupboard or shelf with boxes. Depending on what you want to store there, sealable glass or plastic containers like those in...Food kitchensare welcome to be used. Small metal buckets in which you can place pens look playful. But even small mason jars are ideal.

Paper and folder ideas
These cool shelves for paper from the cover photo, which can also be used for notebooks or binders, would also be worth considering. Or how about a practical stand for folders, textbooks or staplers? If you can't find what you're looking for, you could also use a useful kitchen accessory instead: you know those stands for pot lids? They also prove to be quite practical when it comes to storing certain school supplies.
Organize the drawers for storing school supplies in the children's room
Even the very small drawers will look chaotic in no time if you don't come up with a sensible system for them. No matter how carefully you put the items in it, sooner or later it will end up somewhere else anyway. But not if you divide them using boxes. First, measure the compartment so that you get the right amount and size for the boxes. You can play with the shapes: elongated models are best suited for pens, while erasers or paper clips, for example, can also be stored in a smaller, rectangular one. For scissors, the width should also be correct.

Organizer for cleaning products with a practical handle
Sometimes you just need to stretch your imagination to come up with cool hacks. Such organizers, which are actually intended for cleaning supplies, can also be used to store school supplies in the children's room. The idea is particularly worthwhile if you give it a theme. What do we mean by that?
- For example, use a model for everything you need in math: compass, ruler, set square, calculator and so on.
- Another organizer can contain everything for art: watercolors, pencils and other paints and crayons, brushes, paper and scissors.
So instead of gathering all the items together every time, your child can grab the entire organizer and place it on or near the desk so that everything is within reach and can be put away again immediately.
Smart storage of school supplies only works with consistency
No matter how great you come up with systems, if the child doesn't consistently follow this order, your efforts will quickly be ruined. That's why you may want to accompany your school child in the beginning:
- Teach the child routines
The desk should be tidied up after each use. Everything that was taken out of cupboards, boxes and drawers will later be put back in its place.
- Order in your school bag
It is unpacked after school and packed for the next day after completing homework and studying.
- Clean out to maintain order
Children tend to simply put away what is broken or empty. If you forget this, the next time you'll have this useless item in your hand again and that can become frustrating when you just wanted to get something done quickly. That's why such things are best thrown in the trash straight away. Furthermore, cancleaned out regularlybecome. You look through all school materials at self-determined intervals and dispose of what is no longer needed.
Bonus-Tipp:How about shopping for school supplies together with your child? They gain a completely different value when they can choose the colors and motifs on the notebooks and school pencil cases themselves. Then cleaning up and taking care of it becomes much more fun.
