After we have given you simple instructions on how to fold the annoying (but also practical) fitted sheets, we would also like to keep the rest of the bed linen tidy in the closet. We explain, among other things, how to fold normal bed sheets using the Konmari method, with a few tricks on how you can store the bed linen sets to save space.
Folding normal sheets – These variants are available
Admittedly, folding a smooth sheet isn't exactly complicated. If necessary, you can simply spread it out on the bed, table or floor and then work through it step by step until you have a compact sheet that youin the closetor put the drawer. But aren't there some tricks that can make the whole thing even quicker and easier and perhaps even more space-saving?
Folding the bed sheets – the classic
- Take the two corners of one long side of the sheet in your hands and spread it apart in the air.
- Now place one corner on top of the one in the other hand and hold it with the same hand. As you fold it over, you can run your free hand through the sheet to the fold to tighten it.
- With your now free hand, take the hanging end of the sheet, where two corners should now be together.
- Here too, place the corners well together, then grab them and place them together with the first two corners of the sheet. You should now have four layers of fabric.
- Continue in this way, corner to corner, until you get a square or the desired size.
Fold lengthwise and then fold over
Alternatively, you can fold the bed sheet as follows:
- Start with one corner in each hand, but this time on the short side.
- Place one on the other corner so that you fold the bed sheet in the middle. You will receive a long strip.
- Now place the fold on the folded corners to create an even narrower strip.
- Depending on how big the bed sheet is or how narrow you would ultimately like the material to be, you can carry out this step again.
- Then fold one of the narrow ends inward several times to end up with a flat square or rectangle. Viewed from the side, the layers of fabric should have formed waves, so to speak.

Folding sheets using the Marie Kondo method (Konmari)
Marie Kondo is known for her practical organization tips and she doesn't stop at the bed linen. So if you want to fold a bed sheet, you canto Konmaridirect. This usually involves rolling up clothing and home textiles to make them more compact and, above all, more accessible (you don't have to pull the sheets out of a pile and mess up all the others).
- Start as in the second instructions and fold the bed sheet lengthwise several times until it is the desired width.
- Instead of folding it over, roll it up, starting from one of the two short sides.

Are you interested in this specific bed linen, but you can't find the right sheet color? You can avoid the problem in the future by simply always folding the sets (i.e. pillowcases, duvet covers and bed sheets). And no, we don't mean just stacking them on top of each other, because even that way they can get mixed up over time. Instead, make “packages” so to speak. Martha Stuart shows us how:
Variant 1
First you have to fold the bed linen: Put the sheet and the duvet cover together according to one of the first two instructions. You should end up with rectangles or squares that are a little smaller than the pillowcase. Because then you put the bed sheet and cover into this pillowcase. Packed like this, put the set directly in the cupboard.
Variant 2
Instead of putting sheets and bed linen in the pillowcase, you can do something different. Once the sheet is folded into a strip of the desired width, place the folded duvet cover and pillowcase in the middle and then enclose them with the sheet (the folding method from the second instructions).
Variant 3
Of course, the principle also works if you choose the Konmari method. To do this, simply roll up all the parts or you can first put the bed sheet and cover in the pillowcase and then roll everything up.
Variant 4
If you prefer to hang the bed linen, you can also do this with the entire set. So you use one clothes hanger per set, folding the parts in advance and then simply placing them over the hanger. Start with the pillowcase as it is shorter and could slip off quickly. However, if it is at the bottom, it will be weighed down by the other parts.
