Painting triangles on the wall

Geometric patterns are modern in interior design and are used not only in textiles, furniture and decorations, but also on the walls. Sometimes it's decorative strips, sometimes entire wall panels or even wallpaper. But if you like things particularly simple and inexpensive, simply use wall paint and paint the wall yourself in the desired pattern.

Triangular shapes are particularly popular and can also be combined with square ones if you want. Whether in the children's room, as an accent wall in the living room, to spice up a simple hallway or as a wall design in the bathroom - anyone can paint triangles on the wall with just a few tricks and moves.

How to create clean patterns

So that each triangle can be separated cleanly from the adjacent surfaces and the floor is not dirty, a few auxiliary materials are necessary that every painter uses:

  • Wall colors in any color
  • Painter's fleece for the floor
  • Paper tape for masking or stencils/ruler and pencil
  • Malerpinsel

Once you have gathered the necessary materials, you can get started. With the adhesive tape you can do what you wantDesign patterns. What's practical is that the band can be easily removed again, so you can try and change it as you please. Only when you are satisfied with the pattern do you start painting.

  • Place painter's fleece on the floor. Use it not only to protect the floor itself, but also to mask the baseboard if there is one.
  • Consider the pattern: Do you want small triangles here and there or wide stripes divided into triangles? Or would you like to paint the entire wall in color and divide it into a few large triangular shapes for this purpose?
  • You create the pattern by sticking the adhesive tape to the wall. Make sure you attach it really neatly and tightly so that no paint runs underneath.

  • Once your pattern is ready, you still need to think about how you will distribute the selected colors. Do you like it colorful or more subtle, neutral or pastel tones? Should there be a fewstronger accentsby designing one or two triangles in a brighter color?
  • Mark the areas in the selected colors so that you don't get confused later. You can also use sticky notes.
  • Prepare the wall paints according to the manufacturer's instructions (some need to be diluted with water, for example). Stir well to dissolve the color pigments and mix evenly.
  • Once you have painted all surfaces, allow the paint to dry thoroughly. This is followed by a second coat to achieve an opaque color.

  • To prevent the paint from fraying, it is important to remove the adhesive strip at the right time:If you have only applied one layer, do this before the paint dries, i.e. before it has formed a film. If you apply two coats of paint, you need to be quicker. In this case the tape comes off immediately after the second coat.
  • So when you paint the individual areas, it's worth following a specific system. Always paint two adjacent surfaces so that the strip that separates them can be removed as quickly as possible.

If, after removing the adhesive tape, you discover a few areas that are frayed or where the paint does not completely cover the surface up to the dividing line, you can touch these up with a small brush.

If you don't want free stripes between the triangles

If you prefer the individual shapes to be directly next to each other and not separated by stripes, you can draw the desired pattern on the wall with a ruler and pencil and then fill it in with the colors. It is also possible to cut out the desired triangle size from cardboard and then use it as astencil to useto transfer them to the wall.
