Ceramic art installation decorates every guest room in this restaurant

The designers from the interior architecture and design studio Rockwell Group recently designed the interior of the new Nobu restaurant in New York. The restaurant has three separate guest rooms: a main guest room and two private ones. As part of the interior design, the studio commissioned Canadian ceramicist Pascale Girardin to create a modern ceramic art installation for each area. These should refine the design of the restaurant and give it a unique look.

The first ceramic art installation is located in the main guest room and is designed in collaboration by Rockwell Group and Pascale Girardin. The artwork is like an ooriginal wall designpresented and consists of small ceramic pieces that resemble briquettes of charred wood. They are arranged in such a way that they look like a large brush stroke on the walls. A total of 3,500 elements were made for the entire installation and transported from Montreal to New York. They were then attached piece by piece to the plastered, red wall. To make the whole wall design look even more original, the walls are designed with indirect lighting. In this way, the art installations can be successfully staged and create an exclusive ambience.

The second ceramic art installation is also a collaboration between the designers and is located inthe private guest room. The walls in the room are decorated with these, but these are two- and three-dimensional blocks that resemble Japanese boro textiles. The cobalt blue elements are glazed and create an original, textured effect. The built-in LED lights create wonderful lighting effects while making the artwork the focus.

The final ceramic art installation is located in the so-called sake area, named after the popular Japanese drink. For this purpose, the ceramist made a collection of a total of 70 clay pots, which are arranged on floor-to-ceiling, open shelves. The clay vessels look like the original sake bottles and each bottle is decorated with a unique brushstroke in cobalt blue. The special works of art fit perfectly into the ambience and are real eye-catchers in the room.
