How to set up sewing rooms - ideas and tips

The importance of thedifferent pieces of furnitureAnd accessories such as cupboards, tables and shelves should never be underestimated if they set up the sewing room. Nevertheless, the number of pieces of furniture used as a storage space also depends on the size of the room. While more space can be planned in a larger room, it must be thought about space -saving solutions. Here it is an advantage to use the walls. Open and lockable wall shelves are particularly practical here. In keeping with the nutritional, other accessories and utensils can also be selected for hanging. So an ironing board is undoubtedly an important tool when sewing. So that this does not take unnecessary space on the wall, a model can be chosen to hang up on the wall.

The sewing machine

The most important element in this room is the sewing machine. Of course, the needles are also important and nothing can be sewn without yarn. But the sewing machine is the focus. That's why she also deserves a place of honor. If you plan to invest in a new one for the new room, it is best to choose one that is integrated in a table. This gives you a more stable workplace, which in turn guarantees that you can work comfortably even with larger and heavier fabrics.

If possible, avoid a location on the wall. It is better if the table is free in the room. So the fabric can fall behind the table when sewing and is not thawed through a wall on the table. This also guarantees more comfortable work. A socket should also be available nearby. Furthermore, light is an important point that you should take into account when choosing the location.

While artificial light can be guaranteed practically anywhere in the evening and should also be available in the form of long pendant lights or table lamps, the natural should be used during the day. A place near the window is therefore recommended. Your seating position should be chosen so that you do not shade your body yourself when working.

However, if you do not intend to buy a new machine, there is also a way to use the old one in the same way. With a simple DIY project you can easily prepare a table for the sewing machine yourself. Incidentally, this should best have a size of approx. 1 x 0.5 meters. You can also get help with someone for the project. The table top needs a rectangular hole in which the machine fits and which is simply sawn out. The edges are then sanded nicely. The sewing machine must then be fixed from below.

The cutting table

If you want to set up the room sensibly, you should also think about a cutting table and the best location for it. It doesn't have to be particularly long, but it has to be sufficiently wide. This table can also be used on the wall or used as an extension of the sewing table. The distribution should be carefully considered, especially with these larger elements. The tables should not disturb and allow pleasant traffic. After all, you don't want to bump somewhere every time you get something out of a closet or shelf.

Sewing utensils storage

The sewing utensils must be easily stored and at the same time protected against dust and sunlight. You should carefully consider which of these utensils you want to keep in the immediate vicinity of the sewing machine and which are used less frequently. At least the most common thread colors and a small thread scissors are most practical, for example, while the large scissors are more needed to cut the fabric near the cutting table. If you have been doing this hobby for a while, you will be able to assess which sewing utensils have priority and which rather less, so that you will find a good system with ease.

The yarn rolls should of course be well organized and quickly accessible wherever exactly stowed away. It is best sorted by color so that the required color is always found quickly. Since many sewing machine tables are equipped with a drawer, it makes sense to use it to store it. An additional box that you put in the drawer prevents the yarn rolls, but also other things, prevents wildly. Just sort everything carefully in the box. In addition to the drawer, other boxes can also be used, which are simply set up along the upper, right or left table edge. If you are lost too much work surface, you can consider a container for roles for storing the yarn rolls and other important utensils, which is simply pushed at the sewing table when working and then stowed back on a wall.

Store small accessories and fabrics

All fabrics are more or less sensitive. Not only moths can quickly eat up the beautiful fabric. Direct sunlight and a lot of light in itself also harm him by bleaching it over time. Not to be forgotten is also the dust that is more or less present and cannot be completely banished from the room. With every movement it is whirled up and sits on the fabrics if they are not well stowed away. A lockable cabinet or a best opaque box should therefore definitely find space. After all, the fabrics are not used at once, but are in the closet for months and sometimes for years. Boxes are more advantageous for small rooms because they can be stacked together. Find a useful system for sorting for you. For example, stow every color with your respective nuances in a separate box and colorful patterned also extra.

You can also sort the buttons by color. Especially when you have collected many different models, a good overview is very important in order to quickly find the right model if necessary. Feel free to use transparent boxes. The rainbow effect that arises in sorted buttons can then also have a decorative effect. And the storage for ligaments should also not be underestimated. Gumm bands, for example, must never be in the sun, because they quickly lose their elasticity. Otherwise they can also be hung on the wall of hooks, of course sorted again by color and/or material.

The color plays an important role and especially if not much daylight can penetrate the room. Then, as light as possible, wall colors are an advantage, because they reflect the little light and make rooms brighter and friendlier. The same applies to the pieces of furniture. If you still want some color, you can also paint an accent wall or design with wallpaper, hang up wall pictures, put a carpet or set up other decorations and home accessories for the sewing room.

Design sewing corner

If you do not have a free space, you can also make a small sewing corner wonderfully, provided you have at least some vacant space. Such a corner can also be wonderfully combined with a job in the living room. There are systems where the sewing machine is simply sunk. You already have a free desk to work. Also use the other furniture in the room in your favor. If the dining area is also in the living room, it can be used as a cutting table because it is usually quite large. And to store the sewing utensils, simply use the existing furniture such as shelves, the wall unit, sideboards and similar.
