A single-family home in Australia impresses with its unmistakable charm: The shabby chic furnishings in pink and gray appear feminine, playful and fascinating with a living character in a trendy look. The project, conceived and realized by the talented BJB Architects, is definitive proof that with a little creativity, the line between past and present, between old and new, can be blurred. The end result is a unique interior with a pure romantic atmosphere.
Vintage-look furniture sets the tone
The two-story single-family home has limited living space. In order to make optimal use of the available space, the architects decided on an open plan on the ground floor. The living room is the connecting element between the indoor and outdoor areas. On the one hand it opens through doors to the small garden, on the other hand it flows seamlessly into a kitchen. A door leads guests from the kitchen area to the rustic dining room with adjoining wine cellar. In keeping with the modest living space, the furnishings were rather sparing. But each piece of furniture bears the character of a bygone era. From the Chesterfield sofa in ivory color, to the colonial-style wooden chairs, to the coffee table with wood carving and the chest of drawers with a marble top - the furniture forms a romantic seating area that invites the family to linger in comfort. As for the color scheme, the designers decided against the traditional white. Cream and various nuances of the gray color palette (from silver gray to steel to slate gray and anthracite) characterize the interior. Accents are set with a delicate pink nuance. The pink decorative cushions, decorated with different motifs and made from different textiles, give the shabby interior a splash of color and break up the otherwise simple monochrome color palette.
The elegant corner kitchen in light gray attracts attention
The elegant corner kitchen is functionally furnished. From a purely visual perspective, it can be described as perfection in light gray. Made from solid wood, your door cabinets fascinate with a country house-inspired design. Stainless steel handles give the fronts the finishing touches. The small kitchen island with the kitchen sink with old-look fittings and the marble worktop is located almost in the middle of the room and is considered a unique communication center. It is illuminated by two metal pendant lights. Backless bar stools provide seating for the couple or their guests. This way everyone can enjoy being together and end the evening cooking and eating.
The seamless transition between the living area and the dining area is created primarily by the solid floorboards. Otherwise, the dining room is rustically furnished in contrast to the more elegant living area. The brick walls and the decorative panels on the ceiling, which successfully simulate the old look, form the perfect background for the solid wooden furniture. The dining table has a unique tabletop on which herringbone parquet is laid. The chairs, arranged according to the mix-and-match trend, are partly finds from the flea market, partly mass produced in a shabby chic look. The minibar in the corner and the French baroque armchair complete the furniture palette. The crystal chandelier brings another touch of the past into the interior. Vintage lanterns, pictures and candle holders add character to the room. A wooden door leads to a small wine cellar where the family has displayed their favorite alcoholic beverages.
Back in the living room where a solid wood staircase leads to the second floor. The hallway design fascinates with wallpaper with floral patterns, crystal pendant lights and a stucco ceiling with plaster ornaments. This will visually enlarge the hallway.
Shabby chic furnishings with floral motifs
DieFloral motifs also decorate the wallin the bedroom, where a bed with a velvet-upholstered headboard and cozy, soft bedspreads in accent colors are reminiscent of the glamorous French Baroque style. The floor-to-ceiling closet offers plenty of storage space for clothing and linens.
The large bedroom has two French doors leading to the spacious second floor balcony. The room looks out onto the secluded garden with tall trees and perennials. The beautiful view relaxes the senses and promises pure relaxation even on rainy days.
There is another guest room on the ground floor. It also overlooks the garden and is stylishly furnished. The highlights in the interior are the restored fireplace and the vintage wall mirror. A wooden chest of drawers with brass handles provides support for numerous statues, home accessories and even house plants. The bed with decorative pillows and pink bed linen adds color accents.
The house has onespacious bathroomon the second floor and another small one on the ground floor. The large bathroom is decorated with color and tiles. The large shower cubicle with glass splash guard and the bathtub with brass legs and antique-look fittings make you dream of 18th century English houses. The mirror, the lighting and the washbasin, also selected in the same shabby chic style, complete the furnishings.
The house facade also reflects the shabby chic furnishings. From the plastered exterior walls to the balcony with the wrought iron railings - the house is an absolute eye-catcher. The small terrace with sandstone slabs also fits harmoniously into the overall concept. Rattan furniture forms a comfortable seating area and promises pure relaxation on sunny summer days. The terrace is surrounded by perennials and flowers: scented plants such as the absolute classic roses and native evergreen plants create an effective, natural-looking garden edge.
