For the Halloween chocolate cake:
- 570 g Flour
- 350g sugar
- 150g brown sugar
- 75 g Cocoa powder
- 1 THE Backpulver
- 1 ½ TL Natron
- ¾ tsp kosher salt
- 225 g Butter
- 225 g Pflanzenöl (z. B. Rapsöl)
- 480 ml ice cold water
- 5 large eggs
- 240 g sour cream
- 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
Baking a Halloween cake – this is how you make the dough
Preheat the oven to 175 degrees and line four springform pans (each 22 cm Ø) with baking paper. Mix the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. In another, first mix the oil with the butter. Then add the ice-cold water and beat with a hand mixer until smooth, about 1 minute. Then, while stirring at low speed, gradually add the eggs, followed by the sour cream and vanilla. Continue stirring while adding the dry mixture.
Now distribute the finished dough evenly among the springform pans, then tap them on the worktop a few times to remove any air bubbles. Then bake them for 25 minutes (test with a toothpick) and then let them cool for 10 minutes before removing the springform pans.
Prepare the buttercream
- 615 g Butter
- 1kg sugar
- 60 g Double cream
- 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
- Gel food colors in green, purple and orange
- Piping bag
First beat the butter with a hand mixer until creamy. Then stir in the sugar and cream alternately at low speed. Add the vanilla and increase the speed to get a fluffy cream in about 2 minutes. Divide these into three bowls and color them in the selected colors. Place each cream in a separate piping bag.
Prepare the ganache
- 115g dark chocolate, chopped
- 240 g Double cream
Place the chocolate pieces in a bowl and heat the cream in a saucepan until it begins to bubble around the edges. Then add them to the chocolate, mix everything once and let it rest for 5 minutes. During this time the chocolate should melt completely. Stir everything together again, cover the bowl with cling film and set aside for about 30 minutes.
Now put the bases and cream layers together as shown in the picture and top with the ganache. Now you can start decorating. For the witch legs you can use red and white striped paper straws or candy canes. A hat is easymake from fondant. The witch is just one example. Halloween cake with chocolate icing and spider web pattern
Bake any chocolate cake with icing. Additionally, melt white chocolate in a water bath and spread it in the form of rings on the chocolate icing using a piping bag. Then use a toothpick to trace outward from the center of the cake to create this spider web pattern.
Bake and design cemetery cakes
How about baking a sheet cake for Halloween and turning it into a cool cemetery? You can choose a simple basic recipe for the base. Once it's baked and cooled, it's time to design it. Simple cookies are ideal for imitating gravestones. Simply stick them into the cake base. If you want, you can write on them with icing beforehand (e.g. “RIP”).
In addition to this, you can add other elements. Ghosts made of sugar, for example, or a fence made of narrow chocolate bars. You'll probably find plenty of Halloween candy in the supermarket that you can use for this purpose. Your “graveyard” will look particularly authentic if you cut off part of the cake and crumble it and then distribute it on the Halloween cake. This then looks like fresh, loose earth.
