  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 100g white onions
  • 4 green chili peppers
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 small clove of garlic
  • 40 g coriander greens
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • Salt and pepper

Roughly chop half of the coriander including the stalks, chili peppers and onion and process the coriander, chili, a little salt and half of the onion pieces into a puree. Mash the flesh of the avocado with a fork. Chop the garlic finely and mix with the avocado flesh and lime juice. Then dice the tomatoes and mix with the other half of the onion, the coriander and the avocado. Finally season with salt and pepper.

You are also welcome to try other experiments. For example, use eggs instead of tomatoes or replace the chili with cayenne pepper. Instead of coriander, fresh parsley is also very suitable for seasoning. So as you can see, there are no hard and fast rules. Just let your taste guide you.

Make your own tortillas

Tortillas are part of traditional Mexican cuisine and are thin flat cakes made from either corn or wheat flour. They should not be missing from your Mexican recipe collection. The Mexican tortilla recipe is extremely easy to implement. The finished flatbreads can be filled with various dips such as guacamole, as well as vegetables and Mexican-seasoned meat.

  • 250 g wheat flour
  • 150 ml lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil

Sift the flour into a bowl and then use a wooden spoon to mix it with the water, baking powder, oil and salt. Then continue kneading with your hands for 10 minutes. The dough should no longer stick at the end. Let it rest, covered, for 30 minutes. Then divide it into roughly equal pieces, form them into balls, sprinkle with a little flour and roll out into thin tortillas with a diameter of around 20 cm.

The tortillas are then fried in hot oil in a pan. At high heat, about 30 seconds per side are necessary. As soon as golden spots appear, the flatbread can be turned over. Simply flatten any bubbles that appear in the dough when frying with the spatula. The finished tortillas are stacked on top of each other and covered. Tacos or Mexican wraps are basically called filled tortillas. So tortillas are the base you need if you want to eat tacos. Although there are no rules for the filling these days and you can use whatever you like, there is a classic and traditional taco recipe that also includes minced meat. And it is precisely this Mexican tacos recipe that we would like to introduce to you below.

  • 4 Tortillas
  • 100 g Cheddar
  • 300g ground beef
  • 1 yellow pepper
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 2 spring onions
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 20 ml olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon each of Mexican spices: sea salt, colored ground pepper, paprika powder, coriander seed powder, cumin powder, oregano, white cane sugar

After about 2 minutes, add the minced meat and tomato paste and fry well. Warm up the tortillas in the oven at 180 degrees. Divide the finished mixture into the bowls. Line a deep baking tray with a damp tea towel, place the bowls on top and then fill with water until half is covered. Preheat oven and bake for 40 minutes. If possible, the water should not boil. If so, add some cold water. The cream is served as soon as it has cooled down.
