Sicilian orange cake: The perfect recipe for winter
This moist and delicious cake is worth every bite! The perfect dessert for the winter time when oranges are in season and the best opportunity to use up some leftover fruit and bring some sunshine with a touch of Italy to the cold winter days. However, it is recommended to use organic oranges as they are processed including peel, juice and pulp. If you don't have oranges on hand, you can also make this tempting dessertPrepare with lemons.
Ingredients for the cake:
- 3 Owner
- 250g sugar
- 275 g Allzweckmehl
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 100 g soft butter
- 100 g yogurt or sour cream
- 1 large orange
- 1 TL for Van
For the glaze:
- 100g sugar
- Juice from one orange
Easily prepare Sicilian orange cake:
- Place a rack on the middle shelf of the oven and preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Grease a 20cm springform pan with a little oil and line it with baking paper.
- Place the sugar and eggs in a large bowl and beat with a mixer until fluffy.
- Sift the flour and baking powder and gradually add them to the bowl along with the softened butter.
- Mix everything well with the mixer and then stir in the yoghurt.
- Cut the whole orange into pieces, remove the seeds and puree the fruit together with the peel.
- Add the orange mixture and vanilla to the cake mix and stir until evenly combined.
- Pour the dough into the prepared pan and place a few candied orange slices on top, if desired.
- Bake the orange cake for 50 to 60 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick before removing it from the oven.
- Let it cool for 15 minutes and then remove the sides of the springform pan.
- To make the glaze, place the sugar and orange juice in a small saucepan and wait for the sugar to melt. Let the liquid simmer briefly until it has a syrupy consistency.
- Brush the hot glaze over the warm cake and allow to cool completely before serving.
