The best thing about grilling asparagus is that it's an incredibly easy side dish that you can make with just a few ingredients and in no time. The only thing you have to be careful about is that the asparagus spears don't fall through the grate. Therefore, we recommend that you either use a stainless steel grill basket or simply arrange the vegetables vertically. The grilling time depends primarily on whether you want the vegetables to be tender or a little crispy. To get the asparagus crispy on the outside, 3-5 minutes is enough, but if you like it well cooked, then you will need about 10 minutes. And here comes the recipe for delicious grilled asparagus:
- 500 grams of fresh green asparagus
- 2 tablespoons rapeseed or olive oil
- 1 teaspoon each salt and pepper
And grilling asparagus on the gas grill is so easy!
- To get the asparagus crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, it's best to grill it over high heat and directly on the grill grates.
- The fire gives the vegetables a unique smoky flavor and therefore olive oil and salt are all you need as seasonings.
- Preheat the grill to about 200 degrees. Rinse the asparagus spears under cold water and use a sharp knife to remove the tough, woody ends.
- Then brush the asparagus with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
- To prevent the vegetables from burning, we recommend grilling thick asparagus and placing it on the edge and not in the middle of the grill.
- A little tip from us - so that the sticks don't fall through, you can skewer them on kebab skewers. This ensures even cooking and helps with flipping.
- Then grill for about 3 minutes per side, remove from the grill and sprinkle with a little freshly squeezed lemon juice if desired.
- To check whether the asparagus is finished grilling, you can check it with a fork. The vegetables should be slightly soft, but definitely not mushy.
