Installing an oven in a tall cabinet – simple rules to follow

Nowadays you can connect the oven separately from the hob. So you have the opportunity to do thatLayout and furnishings of the kitchentailored entirely to your own needs. In contrast to conventional ovens, this is a completely self-sufficient unit that can be easily installed in a cabinet tailored to the device. The built-in oven is traditionally installed directly under the worktop. However, according to consumers, it is much more practical to install it higher, in a tall cabinet. This allows ergonomic operation and also looks very aesthetic and modern.

Self-sufficient ovens can be installed anywhere and at any height, which is not the case with models with a hob above. Installing it at chest height makes using the electrical device much more ergonomic and pleasant. You don't have to constantly bend over to constantly check the cooking process.

– Convenience in handling and access to the inside of the oven – installation at chest height reduces strain on the back

– The built-in oven is easier to clean due to its height

– Through the oven window at eye level you can easily check whether the dish is fully baked.

– The built-in oven gives the kitchen a new, modern look.

Security– Small children cannot reach the oven control panel, touch the hot parts and ultimately cannot open the door.

– The ability to place the hob and oven in completely different parts of the room – exactly as suits you or as the kitchen situation allows.

A big plus point is the design freedom with regard to the vertical placement of the built-in oven. The installation height in the cabinet is determined individually, meaning you can, for example, adjust the viewing and working height to your individual body size. As a rule, chest height is considered optimal.

In general, there are two rules that you can follow:

  1. The top edge of the oven should be approximately shoulder height.
  2. The bottom edge should be about 10 – 15 cm below the elbow.

The most important thing is that you should be able to stand comfortably in front of the oven and easily insert and remove the food.

Are there also disadvantages?

As a disadvantage, one can mention that the built-in oven requires a stable and professionally high-quality installation. If the construction is unstable, the oven may collapse onto the floor while cooking. Of course, you also have to expect additional costs.

Simple rules for installing an oven in a tall cabinet

1. The sink should be at least 45 cm away from the oven. Contact of the device with water can cause a short circuit.

2. The installation height of the oven should, above all, be comfortable for the user. The optimal height of the built-in oven is 45 to 80 cm from the floor. The digital display and control panel should be at eye level - no higher. Otherwise, using the device during the cooking process will not be comfortable.

It is possible to combine the oven with other built-in appliances. That's the combinationMicrowave and oven in a tall cabinetvery popular these days. The microwave is installed above the oven, not the other way around. Otherwise, the open oven door would prevent the microwave from being operated. Although this solution saves space, it is only practical if children do not need to use the microwave.

3. When planning your kitchen, you shouldthe so-called “magic triangle”take into account. This means that the walking paths between the work zones (refrigerator, sink and oven) should be carefully planned. The zones shouldn't be too far apart either.

4. It is not recommended to place the oven and hob near the refrigerator. This can affect the operation of both devices.Due to lack of spaceHowever, this is not always possible. It is also advisable to leave 5-10cm distance from the wall.

5. Plan a socket for the built-in stove.

6. Convenient use of household appliances is an important prerequisite for kitchen planning. To easily open the oven door and easily remove the baking tray, you must maintain a distance of at least 100 - 110 cm.

7. Next to the oven built into the tall cabinet, there should be a free space on the worktop where you can place a hot baking tray. If you forget this little thing, you have to go to the other end of the kitchen with the baking tray.

What dimensions should the oven cabinet have?

There should be at least 1.5 to 2 cm left on all sides of the oven for heat dissipation. The standard built-in oven has a width of 60 cm and a depth of 50, 55 or 60 cm. The tall cabinet is selected on this basis. The dimensions are identical: the depth is 50 to 65 cm, the width can range from 60 to 120 cm. The conversion cupboard can reach up to the ceiling and therefore offer sufficient storage space for kitchen utensils. Depending on the size of the kitchen and the type of cabinet, different built-in appliances can also be installed horizontally next to each other.

Which material for the tall cabinet?

When choosing a material, you need to ensure the quality of the coating and the absence of toxic components. When heated, their decomposition occurs, which negatively affects your well-being.

For a built-in oven you need furniture made of high-quality material that:

  • is strong and sturdy to withstand large weight;
  • is heat resistant
  • is free of harmful substances that can enter the room air when heated.

Manufacturers usually offer the following material selection options:

chipboard
– High performance, low price
– The moisture resistance threshold is relatively low, harmful emissions from adhesives are possible.

MDF
– Durable quality material
– does not deform under load, resistant to moisture and high temperatures, environmentally friendly.

Natural wood

– It has a beautiful appearance, is not practical for a conversion cabinet, requires special care.
