Build your own bench for the dining room – DIY ideas and instructions

A dining bench is definitely a practical solution for small spaces. A cozy seating area can also be wonderfully set up in the kitchen or in a niche, creating and saving space in one. You only want a wall for the backrest if it is useful, it fits even if the seat is directly under or on the window sill. The structure is lightly built from wood and upholstered as desired. Instead of padding, seat cushions and mats are ideal to ensure comfortable, soft sitting.

It's a great idea, under the seatProvide drawers or compartments for storage. You can achieve this with as little effort as possible if you use two small finished cabinets as the basic structure for the bench. Choose ones that offer a comfortable seat height and have the same look. Accordingly, get two identical wooden panels for the backrest and seat - these should be the entire seat area plus 2-3 centimeters.

Screw the wooden panel tightly together to form the substructure. Fix the backrest to the wall. Fill all visible screws and paint in the desired color. Think about how you want the padding – as separate cushions and mats or as solid padding. We would advise you to choose the first option as it is easier to care for - the upholstery covers and the cushions themselves can be easily washed in the washing machine.
