Regardless of whether you want to decorate greeting cards, envelopes or invitations – you can basically stamp any paper product. In this article we present a few DIY projects on how you can make creative stamps yourself. We have collected ideas using different materials that are also ideal for crafting with children.
Make your own stamps from available materials
Do you usually collect your wine corks just in case? If not, you can already start as they are suitable for handleshomemade stampn are perfect! For these stamps you will also need wooden scatter decorations, which can be found in every craft store.
The wooden plates are glued to one end of the cork with strong glue and colored. The handmade stamps are finished and even better than the ones you bought because you have the freedom to choose the motif yourself and have fun at the same time. For example, you can use stamps to spice up a greeting card or even make one yourself. With the cork stamps you can embellish wrapping paper or perhaps decorate a homemade gift box and add a personal touch. Mix the paint with a very small amount of water so that the motif can be clearly seen on the paper and the outlines of your motif remain clean. If you happen to have mixed a little more water, put the stamp aside and wait until the paint has dried a little. Try it, it's really quick and easy! Incidentally, you can simply create the cork stamps from wine corks. Depending on the motif you choose, you can carve the figures directly into the corks with a knife.
made of stones and foam rubber
If you would like to decorate wrapping paper with the cork stamps, you can create stamp rolls in no time at all, with which you can decorate larger areas easily and in a time-saving manner. You can cut out the desired motifs from foam rubber and this time stick them around the wine cork. The same goes for the patterns you carve directly into the cork. Then drill the corks and push a colored pencil through the hole, practically using it as a handle. This allows your child to roll the stamp over the paper. Great colored patterns can also be created on the paper if you stick a wool thread around the cork. You can be sure that the wrapping paper will be unique and the recipient will appreciate it.
Stone stamps are not that common, but they are quick to make and look great. All you need are small foam rubber templates and of course stones that you can even find outside. Stick the stickers on the stones, color with an ink pad and start stamping.
Say thank you with a stamp
Variants with fonts are great! We introduce the idea of a stamp with “Thank you!” to do yourself. It's perfect for wedding favors or simply to express your gratitude. The materials you need are:
– Rubber for carving
– Carving knife
- Pencil
- Eraser
– white paper
– The Stamp Kiss
– Cutter
– Wooden cubes
– strong adhesive
First, write the desired lettering with a pencil on a white sheet. Then place the sheet face down on the rubber and use the eraser to smooth it out. Carefully remove the sheet and repeat if necessary. Now let's start carving! First remove the corners and then carve the writing. Use the cutter and carving knife for this purpose. When you're done carving, brush away the dust from the rubber and stick it onto the wooden cube. Finally, soak it in the ink pad and try the stamp.
Foam rubber on wooden building blocks
You can also make stamps for children from foam rubber using wooden building blocks. If you don't want to buy ready-made templates, you can cut out the shape yourself from foam rubber sheets. This is how your stamps look handmade, which adds a charm. The children's stamps require foam rubber sheets, wooden building blocks, glue and a pen. Draw the chosen shape with the pen and cut it out. For car stamps, you can use a car toy as a template. Finally, glue the cut-out shapes onto the wooden building blocks with the writing side down. Give your children a felt with textile paint that will serve as an ink pad, and plain paper or fabric for stamping.
With the self-made stamps you can of course not only stamp postcards and envelopes, but also decorate fabrics, spice up T-shirts and decorate fabric bags or pillowcases. While the normal ink pad is sufficient for decorating small objects, for larger designs you have to use watercolors or poster paints. You can paint the motifs with a brush and the desired color. It is important that you work quickly so that the paint does not dry on the larger area. If you would like to decorate a fabric bag, it is advisable to get a bristle brush and fabric paint. First, place a piece of cardboard between the layers of the bag to prevent the stamping ink from transferring to the other side. If you have already painted your foam rubber motif with paint, you can brush the motif onto the fabric. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
You can also use foam rubber and wooden blocks to create cute little houses with your children, which you can use to create great pictures. To do this, also place the wooden wedges onto the foam rubber and cut out several rectangles. Glue the rectangles onto the wooden blocks and then cut out little houses. Now you can carve windows, doors and roof tiles. Now your children can press the self-made stamps onto the ink pad and start stamping. You can use the stamp to create an image of a city on a white sheet of paper. Using colorful pens, children can also draw sun, clouds or stars and create unique works of art. The cottage stamps can of course be used for many occasions. Not only can you create great paintings, you can also create lovely greeting cards with the stamps.
Letters
Letters attach well to Styrofoam, but you have to be careful about sticking the letters wrong side up. Styrofoam can be found in many packaging for devices and the like, but if you don't have one at home, you can also use wooden cubes here. The letter stamps are a suitable toy for children who are just learning the alphabet.
Carving erasers
A cost-effective idea is to use erasers. They are cheap and you can carve different patterns or symbols on them. Draw the chosen element on it and carve with a cutter and carving knife. If you don't have a carving knife, you can replace it with a cuticle remover.
The finished erasers can also be colored with acrylic paint. Try out homemade stamps and use them to decorate letters or cards beautifully. So that you can stamp comfortably, it might be a good idea to get a handle for the homemade stamp. Simply stick the carved eraser onto a wooden stamp handle.
Make your own stamps out of potatoes
Did you know that you can make your own stamps with potatoes? We provide thesefun yet practical ideathat you can try with children. For this DIY project you will need potatoes, knives, cookie cutters, acrylic paint and brushes. The potato stamps can also be used several times in a row. If multiple colors are being printed, you can simply rinse the potato under cold water, dry with paper towels, and use again.
First the potatoes should be cut into thicker slices. Then the stamps can be cut out using the cookie cutters. So you can make the shapes like stars, butterflies or flowers. Alternatively, you can cut the potato in half and press the cookie cutter deep into the potato. While the mold is still in, you can use the knife to cut out the edge of the potato all the way to the mold. This means your child can comfortably hold the self-made stamp in their hand. Brush the finished potato stamp with acrylic paints and decorate a piece of paper together with the child.
You can use the stamped paper as gift wrapping for parties and birthdays. This way, your gifts will have a beautiful handmade look that will be highly appreciated by close friends and children.
Stamp set
Homemade stamps can also be made using a set. Inside you can find rubber for carving, different templates and the necessary tools. You can use the finished stamp to decorate the linen cloth for the kitchen with small pineapples, for example.
made of crown caps and foam rubber
As a further idea, we present the variantBottle capsand foam rubber. They can be made using shapes cut out of the foam or purchased.
This means you can give the usual coasters an individual design together with the children. All you need is an ink pad and the little one's help.
For our last idea you will need cork boards, foam rubber and a hot glue gun. Cut out the cork board in a suitable size, shape the foam rubber into any desired shape or with a chevron motif, as in the photos, and glue it to the board with hot glue.
As already shown, you can use it to spice up the wrapping paper. Paint acrylic paint of your choice onto an oilcloth and use it as an ink pad. Decorate the wrapping paper with the stamp and wait until the paint is completely dry. Save your homemade stamps to use for wrapping Christmas presents.
