Saving is a habit that we all follow and it is something we have always taught our children. Of course you can buy a nice money box, but why not be creative and make your own money box? This could be exciting and fun, and the kids will love taking part in such a craft! So grab the tools and get to work!

Make a piggy bank out of a tin can

A cute DIY money box that is both unbreakable/sturdy and very budget friendly.

What do you need to make a piggy bank?

Old tin can
Pink sponge
Goggle-eyed
Rosa Metallic-Farbe
Pink cardstock paper
A piece of cardboard
Hot glue gun

How do you make a piggy bank out of tin cans?

  • Cut out a suitable circle from a piece of cardboard that you can use to close the opening of the can.
  • Cut a slit in the cardboard large enoughto throw coins in, and attach it to the open side.
  • Paint the can pink and let it dry!
  • Cut 4 square blocks out of sponges and glue them to the floor.
  • Finally, attach the paper eyes, ears and nose and tada! Mr. Piggy Bank is ready to protect our savings. It's so quick and easy to make your own money box!

Make your own money box from a tissue box

This craft is a real blast! Bet on our upcycling craft that turns a tissue box into a DIY piggy bank. It's so fun to make a money box yourself and the kids will definitely love it!

Accesories:

Acrylic paint
modeling clay

Color brush
Pencil
School glue without glue
Disposable plates

DIY instructions:

  • Pour white and red paint onto a disposable plate.
  • Mix the paint together with a brush to create a pink shade.
  • Cover tissue box with paint. Allow to dry for 1-2 hours. Apply second coat. Dry for 1-2 hours.
  • Form the snout and mouth out of the modeling clay. Use the eraser to make indentations for the nostrils.
  • Form the tail, ears, eyes, eyebrows and bow.
  • Glue facial features to the front of the box.
  • Glue the ears to the top of the box.
  • Glue the tail to the back of the box.
  • Glue the bow to the top of the box. Let dry overnight.

Make DIY piggy bank gift boxes

With a few discarded shipping tubes, construction paper, and our printable templates, you can make these figures in under 20 minutes.

What you need:

colored craft paper
Double-sided tape
Shipping tubes
Hand punching
Scissors

Instructions for crafting:

  • Wrap the shipping tube with construction paper.
  • Use the punch and scissors to create shapes for the face. With all the shapes and sizes, there are no limits to your imagination.
  • Finally, use the double-sided tape to design your figures.

Rainbow mason jar piggy bank

You can make a mason jar piggy bank yourself because it is so easy that the children can paint it themselves, which means thatthis projectcan almost do it alone!

What you need for a rainbow piggy bank:

Acrylic paint in white and all colors of the rainbow
Paint brush
Paper mache paper
Laminator and laminating pouches, optional
Scissors
Mod Podge

Instructions for crafting:

  • First, the children can paint the entire jar and lid white. Then take out the metal piece in the middle of the glass. Allow each coat of paint to dry before applying another. If you don't let the paint dry completely, it will start to peel off when you apply a new coat of paint.
  • When the white paint is completely dry (this takes about an hour), the children can paint a rainbow.
  • Once the rainbow has dried, you canChildren funnyAdd dots to embellish the rest of the vessel.
  • Cut a circle out of red paper that is the same size as the center of the mason jar. Cut a slit in the middle.
  • If you laminate this paper circle, it will be much more stable and will not tear when the childreninsert their coins.
  • Then apply a coat of Mod Podge to protect the glass from damage and impact. Allow the Mod Podge to dry for 24 hours before allowing your kids to use their new rainbow piggy bank! Your little ones will love the new piggy bank and will be eager to save money. It's always good to be able to encourage kids to save, and this mason jar piggy bank is definitely a fun and easy way to do that!
