It is usually hung over the bed to ensure a peaceful sleep and to catch bad dreams or hung on the wall as a cool hippie style wall decoration. You can also make a dream catcher and use it as a home accessory or even wear it in a smaller version as an exotic necklace.
To make a round model, you need a hoop or ring of the desired size. This works really well with a wooden embroidery frame, which is available in different sizes. Get wool or another thin ribbon (e.g. crochet thread), a thick knitting needle andBeads, feathers or other elementsfor decoration. First, tie the band or cord at one point on the ring. Secure the knot with a little glue.
First, pull the yarn over the hoop. Then place it around the outside of the ring and then thread it through the hoop and yarn from the back. Pull the thread to tighten it. Continue working your way along the entire ring. To complete the first row, thread the string through from the back and tie a knot. Follow the same steps for the next rounds. Once you get the hang of it, you'll notice that it's easier than it looks. If you want, you can incorporate beads into the net. You can leave an opening in the middle or integrate a pearl. Knot the thread and secure the last knot with glue.
Of course, this classic network variant is by no means the only one. There are numerous alternatives that you can try and you may want to see some of them below. The tree of life, for example, is very popular, as is the crescent moon. Of course, you can come up with various designs of your own. Or how about this idea with a hemp leaf in the middle:
Now you can devote yourself to decoration and let your creativity run wild. To decorate your own creation, you can use whatever you have at home. Of course, anything you like is allowed. The choice of color is completely up to you. For example, attach a feather to a piece of wool and then thread a bead over it. Design three or four identical elements. Cut pieces of the remaining ribbon you chose for decoration. They should be a little longer in the middle than at the edge. You can then knot everything onto the ring at even intervals. Now all you have to do is attach a ribbon for hanging and you're done.
If you use it as an attractive wall decoration, you can experiment with different color combinations and add great, colorful accents. Contrasting colors or a net in an ombré look looks enchantingly beautiful and gives the room a new look. Depending on your interior style, you can create a shabby chic look. You can use old fabric scraps and lace for this. Old crochet doilies fit in quite well with the shabby chic style. You can also use these instead of the network. Buttons of different colors and sizes are also beautiful decorations.
You can also use various natural materials for crafting. For example, dry branches and twigs can be used for the frame. In addition to feathers, beads and wool, grasses, berries, moss and snail shells are great pieces of jewelry from nature. First, get flexible branches and shorten them so they don't break when bent. Make a bundle of branches and wrap the ring tightly with craft wire in a few places. Now you can spin the web. Below we will introduce you to another method. Tie a thread to the ring and tie it on the opposite side.
Tie the thread around the branch frame a few times so that you can stretch a cross. Fix the crosshairs with a drop of glue. Continue to stretch the thread and finally tie the thread back to the frame. The pattern is reminiscent of the spokes of a bicycle. You are welcome to let your children take part in this craft project. For example, you can decorate the frame however you like.
Don't have a ring to hand but still want to get started with crafting right away? Or are you just in the mood for something more original? Just use anything else: twigs such as driftwood, larger branches, imitation ivory, an arrow, or other straight objects. Yes, even a horseshoe is suitable for this purpose (see below).
We definitely have to mention the crescent moon because it is very popular among the alternatives and not without reason. It looks mystical and beautiful. Besides, he hasMoon different meanings. Several options are available:
- Form a crescent moon out of wire and then fill it with mesh
- Take a normal circle and just use the net to form the moon inside the circle
- Cut off about two thirds of the circle and use the net to form a crescent moon (the two ends of the wire are the tips of the moon)
- Use a large and a small ring, with the small one offset inside the large one (see video instructions)
For the mesh, use the normal instructions as for a circle, except for the moon you don't work your way around the ring, but only to the end points, which will be the tips of the moon. Once there, reverse the yarn in the opposite direction. If you then incorporate a string of LED lights, the decoration will look extremely impressive even in the dark. And after all, the real moon shines too.
Even if you use small branches or twigs, you can create alternative shapes. A great example is this triangular shape. The triangle is your foundation and is created simply by tying three branches of equal length together. You can then connect these three sides with yarn and create nets or other patterns.
Then tie any decorations to one of the three sides. Whether you use the classic feathers, simple pretty bands, necklaces, rings or a combination of several of these ideas is of course up to you. That's a great gift idea, don't you think?
Such a variant is a great gift, and not just for Valentine's Day. You can make your best friend happy with a homemade gift of this kind for any occasion, even for no specific reason, and show her once again how much you appreciate her.
In addition to a ring, you also need a smaller heart shape, which you can easily make out of wire if necessary. Place them where you want them in the ring and start tying the two shapes together as shown in the picture above. Leave a little space between the threads so that you can add a few pendants afterwards. By the way, you can also integrate any other shapes in this way. Geometric shapes, for example, are very popular.
Or how about a slightly more complicated double heart? Just follow the instructions in the video!
The tree of life is really impressive, but also a little more challenging to make. There are different options here too. The tree can either be formed from wire inside the ring and then wrapped with yarn, or you can tie the tree of life with yarn in the middle of the ring. Both a tree crown and the roots including the trunk are designed.
Instructions
You can use the instructions from the video below.
If you also use a horseshoe for the design, add a great good luck charm that also looks great. If you use a large ring, you can clamp it in the middle, for example.
Another variant would be to use the horseshoe as an alternative to the ring. In this case, you can easily build the net in there exactly as described in the instructions for a simple ring above. The two ends should point upwards. Finally, you can add any trailers you want.
Particularly suitable for an exciting oneCraft afternoon with childrenis a simple design made from a paper plate. The first step is to cut the paper plate into a ring by cutting out the bottom of the plate. Make several holes at even intervals on the inner edge of the ring. Punch three more holes on the outer edge. Tie a long string to a hole on the inner edge and thread it through all the holes. Tie two shorter and one longer pieces of string to the holes on the outer edge and attach the feathers to them. If you want, you can cut the feather out of colorful paper or felt.
This idea is also great for children. Simple popsicle sticks are used, which are colored with acrylic paint and, when the paint is dry, glued together to form a hexagon. The net that is then stretched does not have to have a specific pattern. You can also simply stretch threads criss-cross. But the result will be even prettier if you add a few pearls here and there.
Anything from pompoms, tassels and beads to feathers, flowers or other random things can be used as pendants. Maybe your kids have some great ideas!
Work with iron-on beads, you can get really creative. Make several “tiers” and connect them together with small rings and chains. Also decorate it with bells or other decorations. The feathers should also be made of iron-on beads so that they match the rest of the design.
You can see a very simple alternative in the picture above. A subtle and elegant oneDIY Mobileas a variant with light, white feathers with gold accents. Instead of the net, a thin gold band was knotted to the ring without a special pattern. Check out the picture instructions below.
The ring also doesn't hang vertically as usual, but horizontally. You can also design the feathers according to your taste by choosing any color and using it to color the tips of the white feathers. Once the paint has dried, you can tie different lengths of yarn or string to the feather shaft and secure the feathers to the ring.
If the diameter of the shaft allows it, you can insert thicker yarn directly into it instead of tying it down. Since springs are known to be light, they are fixed sufficiently firmly in this way and can then be knotted to the ring.

With these you will get a few beautiful and, above all, original pendantshomemade macrameFeathers or leaves. They can be easily attached to the ring using the integrated loop. In addition to yarn, you will also need fabric stiffener, sharp fabric scissors, and a wire-bristle cat brush. To make a medium-sized feather, cut the following pieces from the yarn:
- 1 piece that is as long as the spring should be for your needs
- Several shorter pieces for the width of the spring, which can all be the same length or become shorter towards the bottom (then the spring shape can be shaped more easily later)
Take the longest piece of yarn and fold it in half as shown in the picture. Then tie the other pieces one after the other to the first one as in the instructions. Continue in this way until you are just above the bottom peak. Then use the cat brush to brush all of these threads apart. Now you can trim the sides with scissors to create the shape of a feather. Fix the threads with the textile stiffener.
Note:In the example, oversized feathers were made for the wall. So don't let the size in the pictures put you off. With these instructions you can make springs of any size and length.
