Would you like to make a unique drum together with your child and become creative? With a few simple materials such as balloon and can you can build your own personal drum yourself in no time! Read on to find out how to find out.
You need these materials for your homemade drum
- Empty can
An empty Nesquik socket is great as a drum body because it is stable and reinforces the sound. If you do not have a Nesquik socket, you can also use the following alternatives: chips box (e.g. PRINGLES), cardboard coffee or metal, plastic or sheet metal boxes (e.g. tomatoes or cookies). It is important that the can is open at the top and has a fixed, round shape so that the balloon can be tensioned well.
- Balloon
A large balloon serves as a drum skin for your homemade drum. The tighter the balloon is tense, the higher the drum sounds. A less excited balloon results in deeper tones.
- Cardboard
This serves to stick the can so that the drum looks more beautiful. You can use different colors for small decorations such as stars, circles or stripes.
- tape
It is best to use wide, colored adhesive tape or Washi tape to give your drum a cool look.
- Scissors
Use a handicraft scissors with rounded tips when children tinker with.
- Wooden stick
Wooden sticks are used as a drum stick on the drum. The child will be able to hit the drum skin. For this purpose you can take shish locks, chopsticks or ice cream stems.
- Little balls
You will attach the small balls to the ends of the drum sticks. You can use wood pearls, marbles or self -shaped kneading balls. Knett balls make the sound softer, while marbles or wooden beads are louder. If you use plasticine, shape the balls beforehand and let them dry a little more stable.
So it goes step by step
In this guide, we show you how you can make a great drum from the simple household items mentioned above. And the best thing about it: you can decorate you according to your taste. Let's go!
- Cut the neck of the balloon with scissors so that you can use the larger part. Pull the balloon over the open can and make sure that it sits smooth and taut so that the drum sounds good later.
- Glue the balloon with adhesive tape all around on the edge of the can. Press the tape well so that the balloon does not slip.
- Tap your fingers carefully on the drum skin. If the sound is too dull, tighten the balloon.
- Now you can beautify the drum body so that the drum not only sounds good, but also looks great! Cut out a piece of colorful cardboard box that fits around the can. Stick the box with adhesive tape or adhesive around the can.
- Glue the drum with paper shapes (e.g. stars, hearts), stickers or glitter. You can also paint the box with colored pencils or felt pens.
- You can also cut out narrow strips of colorful paper or tape and stick them around the can. So it will look like a real drum.
- If you want to make the drum more colorful, wrap them with Washi tape or gift ribbon!

The drumsticks are as important as the drum itself because they create the sound. You can easily make them out of wooden sticks.
- Take two wooden sticks (e.g. shish lock skewers, chopsticks or ice cream stems).
- Stick a ball at one end of each stick (e.g. a wooden bead, murmur or self -shaped kneading balls). Use hot glue to ensure that the balls are tight.
- You can paint the chopsticks with colorful adhesive tape, washi tape or colors so that they look even more beautiful.
- Now you have your homemade drumsticks - time to test the drum!
