The fastener that holds the scarf together can also serve as a beautiful accent and give a final finish to the homemade masterpiece.
Carrying bag made from a children's t-shirt
A T-shirt can quickly be turned into a great tote bag without any sewing. All you need is a t-shirt and scissors. We recommend choosing a children's t-shirt for the DIY project. The fabric is usually not as elastic as the models for adults, so it is more durable and more durable, which is what is required for a carrier bag.
DIY kids tote bag
The neckline of the T-shirt is removed, as are the sleeves. You have to make sure that there is no arch that is too big, because the bag will then hang in a confusing manner and there is also the risk of things falling out of it.
DIY tote bag without sewing
After the bag straps are already in place, you have to design the bottom of the bag. This can be done without sewing, but simply by lacing. Each T-shirt ends at the bottom with a hem that looks more like a tunnel. You have to make three slits and pull three cords through them.
Tie on the bottom side
The small strings can be made from the same fabric of the T-shirt. Simply cut out a few strips, stretch them out and thread them through the tunnel using a safety pin. The bottom of the bag should be tied properly and should be stable so that the carrying bag can withstand the load later. Now the friendly and very individual carrier bag is ready!
Practical upcycling clothing ideas – make your own baby bibs
Every mother knows that one bib is never enough and the more available, the better. Here we present a great upcycling idea for bibs made from old T-shirts and towels that are no longer usable.
Making new from old
The first step is to think about how big the bib should be. Maybe you have one on hand that you can use as a template. The area around the neck will be made from a T-shirt neckline and the rest from a piece of towel. The two are then tied together and sewn using the sewing machine.
Baby bib made from old t-shirt and towel
Old T-shirts with a scoop neck are best. About 2/3 of the cutout is needed, but first you have to measure the diameter of the child's head and cut the cutout accordingly.
Make practical baby bibs yourself
The bib is largely made of towel material. An old towel can be used perfectly for this. The baby will definitely like one in a beautiful, bright color, making feeding even more fun.
Upcycling clothing ideas – DIY baby hat
A children's hat made of jersey or fleece or also called a beanie is perfect for the transitional period. One of these is quickly sewn from a sleeve made from an old shirt. The pattern is very simple and every hobby sewer can certainly cope with it.
Sew a great hat out of a T-shirt sleeve
The sleeve only needs to be as wide as 70% of the child's head circumference. When it comes to length, everyone can decide for themselves how long the hat should be. The small 'ears' can be easily tied and the hat can also be adjusted to the children's hat. The hat can also be made reversible. Then it would make sense to use two sleeves from different shirts.
Make your own stylish hairband
This beautiful hair band is really easy to make yourself from an old T-shirt. All you need is a piece of T-shirt material about 50 cm long and 15 cm wide, preferably patterned or striped, and a hair tie. It would be better if a sewing machine was available, but it is also possible without it.
DIY hair band with knots
Now make two strips of the same size from the fabric. These can be tied very easily, but the way it is shown in the picture creates a beautiful knot that becomes the accent of the hairband.
Nice hairband
Finally, you should try the hair band and shorten it if necessary. In addition, you should also calculate the hair elastic, because this is how the hair band is tied together. The hair tie will later sit under the hair and you won't be able to see it. Nevertheless, it makes sense to sew the waistband as cleanly as possible and, if possible, with a sewing machine.
Yarn from old T-shirts
In addition to making new clothes from old T-shirts, there is also the option of making yarn yourself. For this purpose, a T-shirt is cut into strips at least 1.5 cm wide. This will later result in a fabric cord about 0.5 cm wide.
Make your own yarn
The whole process is really easy. The only thing you have to remember is not to cut the strips all the way to the end or to the seam. You should continue on the seam at a slight angle, diagonally. The strips are then stretched out to create a single pattern.
Yarn from T-shirts for knitting
You can make really great things yourself with yarn from old T-shirts. With the help of a large knitting needle you can knit coasters, pot holders, cushion covers, fabric baskets, jewelry and even carpets. If you spontaneously calculate how many meters of knitting cord you will get from a single T-shirt, you will definitely start to reuse all the discarded T-shirts in this way and make something great out of them yourself. Crafting is fun, especially when it's sustainable.
DIY T-Shirt Yarn Tips
Producing even strips of fabric yourself seems easy, but it's not quite. A prerequisite for later making beautiful items out of it is that the T-shirt yarn is of the same width. A rotary cutter and a cutting mat with centimeter measurements will definitely come in handy.
Make your own sleeveless top from an old T-shirt
If you no longer feel like wearing your old T-shirt, you can quickly convert it into a super modern sleeveless top for the summer. It's best to look for a T-shirt with a nice print or lettering on the front so that the "new" top really stands out. Alternatively, you can of course buy a new basic shirt, possibly very cheaply during the summer sales. With a little creativity you can make a unique piece of clothing yourself. This even works without sewing. Below we show exactly how to do it.
DIY ärmelloses Top
You don't actually need much to make this beautiful DIY sleeveless top. In addition to a T-shirt, whether new or old doesn't matter, you also need scissors and textile glue. It can also be done without a special glue, but instead with a needle and thread in a matching color.
Upcycling clothing ideas from old T-shirts: step-by-step instructions
First you need to cut off the neckline and then the sleeves of the T-shirt. It is best to mark the areas that need to be cut off with chalk or another medium and fix them with pins. This way you can try the T-shirt on and if something doesn't fit, you can repair it. To make the two sides equal, fold the T-shirt in two and mark the middle, which will later serve as a reference point. Make a small cut on the back. Finally, the opening of the cutout is regulated.
After you have measured very carefully and tried on the new cut, you can remove the old sleeves and neckline. You can see how it works in the picture above. The leftover material can be used to make a beautiful, decorative detail for the new neckline. For this you need three strips of the same width and length, which you now braid into a braid. The result is a narrow cable cord that will connect the front and back of the new summer top.
All you have to do is attach the braid cord and the beautiful summer top is ready. Here you have the choice between gluing and sewing on. The procedure is the same for both variants: you start at the middle that you previously marked and tie the two ends of the string at the back. At the front, the cable cord is attached, sewn or glued directly to the neckline. You should make a tunnel at the back and pull the cord through it. At the back, where the cut is, you tie the cord tightly and adjust the opening of the neckline as you wish. Now the great summer top is finished.
