Natural facial cleansing with oil for clear skin: method and care tips

Most skin cleansing products aim to remove dirt from the face and excess sebum from the skin. They are often based on fat-dissolving substances such as alcohol or salicylic acid. Although they cleanse the skin, it loses a large part of its natural oil layer, which normally serves as protection against external influences and prevents excessive loss of moisture. The result is an uneven complexion and a higher susceptibility to skin imperfections such as pimples and acne. In the search for suitable skin care, more and more people are turning to natural remedies. The beauty trend for clear skin has been moving towards natural facial cleansing with oil for several years.

The trend for naturalness is clear. People try to live in an environmentally friendly way and get by without chemicals in their everyday lives. Many reducethe use of shampooand rely entirely on plant-based products that not only protect the skin's natural protective barrier, but also protect the environment. This is how the method for natural facial cleansing with oil came into being – “Oil Cleansing Method” or OCM for short. As the name suggests, this is about cleansing the skin with oil.

The skin's natural protective barrier

With an area of around 1.6 square meters, the skin is our largest organ. It needs protection against external influences and for this reason it produces oil or sebum. When you use a lot of cleansing products, the skin becomes degreased and reacts by producing even more sebum. The so-called “Oil Cleansing Method” is based on the fact that oil can actually dissolve oil. In this way, the skin does not lose its protective layer of fat, nor does it produce excess sebum, and it is brought into balance. At the same time, deep pore cleaning is possible. Even if it seems paradoxical at first, a natural facial cleansing with oil becomes specialfor oily and greasy skinrecommended.

Oil Cleansing with which oils?

Castor oil is always used as a basis for natural facial cleansing using the oil cleansing method. Above all, it has a deep cleansing, anti-inflammatory and healing effect. It is used to dry out the skin when it is too oily. It is mixed with other oils in different mixing ratios. Depending on the skin type, different ones are usedessential oilsadded. Dermaroller use against acne, scars, wrinkles and cellulite

Have you heard about micro-needling? Now there is a tool that looks like a roller, has hundreds of small needles and when used on the skin, it helps against acne and pimples, makes scars disappear and basically improves the complexion. You can find out everything about dermaroller use at home or at the doctor’s office here.

Oil Cleansing uses at least 2 oils: castor oil and one or more base oils. Choose these according to your skin type. In general, the drier and more sensitive the skin, the less castor oil the oil mixture should contain. However, you shouldn't do without it completely, because it has the properties to penetrate deep into the skin structure and bind with other oils, for example sebum. But if you take too much of it, the opposite effect can be achieved and the skin dries out. That's why it's very important that you balance the oil mixture very well. Here we present three exemplary mixed oils for different skin types:

  • Normal skin: 20% castor oil, 80% other oil
  • Oily skin: 30% castor oil, 70% other oil
  • Sensitive and dry skin: 10% castor oil, 90% other oil

When choosing oils, you should make sure that they are cold-pressed and do not contain any additives such as flavoring, etc. These can be found in the drugstore or pharmacy.

Tips

Base oils can basically be used for every skin type. However, you should choose according to your skin characteristicsmeet people individually. Dry skin can be significantly improved if rich, nourishing oils with a high proportion of saturated fatty acids, such as argan oil, are applied to it. These oils are well absorbed by the skin and leave a light greasy film on the skin. With fatty onesSkin, on the other hand, can be easily absorbed by oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, such as:Use grape seed oil. If make-up is to be applied after daily facial care, then a more “light” oil can also be chosen. A facial oil can be combined with other care products as desired, for example by applying your favorite night cream after your evening oil routine.

It is recommended to only mix the oils in small quantities and store them in a sealable, clean glass container that is cleaned regularly. In addition, you should not put your finger in the oil, but rather let a little bit of it drip onto your palms. In this way, no bacteria will get into the homemade facial care and it will therefore last longer.

Apply nourishing oils correctly

In order for you to benefit maximally from the beautifying effect of facial cleansing and care with oils, you must apply the oil correctly to your face and let it work for a short time. It takes a little longer than using a classic product. It's best to do it in the evening or when you have time. It is completely sufficient to use natural facial cleansing with oil two or three times a week. In addition to the oil mixture, you will also need a washcloth. Now put it in the warm water. Put two or three drops of oil on the palms of your hands or directly on a dry face and massage in well with your fingers. Then squeeze out the washcloth and place it briefly on your face. After 1-2 minutes of exposure time, begin to remove the oily film from your face with the washcloth. Then rinse your face with cool water so that the pores close again. Finally, you can, but you don't necessarily have to, apply a care cream because the procedure itself has a nourishing effect.

Positive effect of oil cleansing

The biggest advantage of the Oil Cleansing Method is that it thoroughly removes make-up, dirt and excess oil from the skin while nourishing it. The principle is simple and is actually a chemical reaction: non-polar solvents are best dissolved by other non-polar solvents, for example oils. Natural facial cleansing with oil is suitable for all skin types, but oily skin that is prone to impurities particularly benefits from it.

What else needs to be taken into account?

When you start using a natural, oil-based facial cleanser, your skin can initially become very greasy. It needs a little time and will come back into balance. It may take around two to three weeks until you achieve the desired effect. In addition, you should be careful when using castor oil and do not clean your face with it more than 1, 2 or 3 times a week. It has a deep cleansing effect and frequent use can dry out the skin. Ultimately, you get clear, healthy and radiant skin.
